I'm just looking for suggestions for another 2x12. I currently have a Splawn 2x12 w/ G12-75's. Although it's a great sounding cab and well constructed , I'd like something a little more "open" but not lose a lot of tight bass response that it has. This purchase will be later on down the road , but I'm starting to think about it now.

Thanks!
Mark

If you would like a bit of a mid shift you could do an open/closed back mix cabinet. In my experience that is normally what happens with open back cabinets vs closed back cabinets. If you just want a more open sound i would go with a bogner 2x12 OS cabinet closed back. I think that would compliment the splawn 2x12 great :)

My vote for the Mesa Roadster 2 x 12. I prefer it over the Splawn 2 x 12 that I had and it is more compact. It really puts out some great tight tone, and I like the Mesa V-30 quite alot in it. It compliments my 79 Splawn 2203 alot.

Check out OLA's clips of the roadster cab.

I'd maybe consider the Avatar Traditional Convertible Cab. Removeable panel basically on back for best of both worlds. They are of above average construction. Dave there is great to work with. They have great prices on speakers and they also sell rebranded broken in Celestions called Hellatones. I was pretty happy with my Avatar 212.

Every single response has been a different answer, poor guy

Hey Guys! Thanks for the suggestions. Please keep them coming. I apologize if my original post wasn't that clear. I'm looking for another 2x12 that maybe more opening sounding on its own. Not looking to "mate" it w/ my current Splawn cab. Something that projects, but isn't "tubby" sounding, which I seem to hear in oversized cabinets.

Thanks!
Mark

I was going to ask if anyone had any experience w/ these cabs & what the sound & quality of them are?

Thanks!
Mark

This ^

These cabs come with removable panels to make the cab either full back, 3/4 back or half back as you want.

USA made
The owner is one of the guys from Jet City amps

I third white box, good stuff, great pricing (if that matters).

Have you tried different speakers in the cab you have? A lot of people find the 75's tubby sounding.

The 75's (obviously , in my opinion) are far from tubby. They're pretty tight sounding, but on the darker side of the spectrum. I've had CL80's , V30's , & G12-75's in my Spalwn cab at one point or another.

Splawn Small Blocks maybe. They kill in Splawn cabs.

Are you looking for a second cab or are you wanting to replace your existing cab? That makes a difference.

Just looking to have a 2nd one in case the one I have "breaks down".

Plus, I was looking for a more open sounding cab. Sounds like I'll be looking at something w/ a semi-open back.

Thanks!
Mark

I like oversized 2x12 making sure it's deeper rather or in addition to being taller/wider with a semi open back for my open sounding cabs. I know you said for backup if you ever need to scale up for an outdoor show or whatever I find the open 2x12 on top of a closed 2x12 sounds crazy huge. Some other open sounding options but ones I haven't had a chance to use yet are the forte 3d and port city ported cabs.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, my favorite open back 2x12 is a marshall 1966b but I make a new back for it and cut a 12in x 18in oval opening in it.
