I know that traditionally a baritone guitar is B to B but I've noticed a lot of players tune to low C, low A, etc. I just picked up a baritone 6-string Ibanez and have never owned a baritone before so a bit lost. I tuned down to B but seems flubby. Not sure what strings they had on the guitar originally but it was tuned to "D".

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm a big Sevendust fan but don't necessarily have to get their tuning. Just want something that sounds heavy but the strings stay tight. Thanks!

I probably didn't explain everything good but I traditionally play in Eflat but got a baritone guitar so I could play in much lower tunings. Since I don't ever play this low, I'm curious what people normally play in (key) so I have a reference. I believe Sevendust tunes to C and KORN to A?

Is a baritone guitar normally just tuned to B?

Sevendust tunes to B, B flat, and A all the time... very few songs in C these days... actually I can't think of many in C at all...

I believe in Clint Lowery's video demo of his sig baritone he's tuned to at least Drop B...

For those tunings on a baritone guitar the Ernie Ball "Not Even Slinky" set should be pretty decent because of the higher tension due to the scale... but a lot of bands go even thicket on the low string...

It's all personal preference... hell I use 11-49 in Drop C on a 25.5 scale guitar and most people think that's crazy... works just fine for me though...

Standard baritone is B E A D F# B
Drop the low E a whole step for drop A. Or all the strings a half or whole step.
Any of the open alt tunings can be adopted too, just shift down a 4th.

I have an LTD Grynch and I tune it a whole step down and in drop C. I use 9-46 strings on it.
