So i'm joining a Sykes/Blue Murder tribute and although i will mainly use my '78 LP Custom, my GMW Superstrat is my other guitar. Right now it only has a Singlecoil in the neck, and it's going to need a neck humbucker to do convincing Sykes lead tones.

The Suhr Aldrich Neck pickup is my first choice, since i have had great results with that pickup in my LP. How well does it do split coil tones?

Not that it's majorly important, but if it can do pretty good split coil tones for cleans then i will swap out my 3 way switch for a 5 way switch with coil split in positions 2 + 4.

Cheers!

Me,Harry and Carl Roa all had the same question. With that said, if you listen to any of Carl Roa's clean stuff with a split coil, he has an aldrich in the bridge and it splits really well IMHO. Way better then I expected!!

+1. I was kind of surprised with the split tones too. When I had mine set up like that it was almost strat like, nice to be able to have that versatility

Fantastic, thanks for the info Ralph! :)

As i say, it's not like it's majorly important for me to have coil split tones available.. but it would definitely be nice to have the option, especially for songs where i need to use a clean/semi-clean tone.

The cool thing is the Aldrich neck pickup does that big fat Sykes style neck pickup tone (like on Is This Love), so if it does both nice cleans and singing leads... it'll be great!

Awesome!! That's great to know, cheers! :)

I use an Aldrich neck pickup in one of my Les Pauls. It's probably one of my top 2 neck pickups and it splits awesome....sounds like a very nice true single coil.

Exactly what i was hoping to hear Jerry, thanks!! I absolutely love the tone of the pickup so if it splits well then its a bonus

Both the aldrich neck and bridge pickups split well. I like the bridge split a little better than the neck though. I have the aldrich set in my '04 LP standard LE with push pull tone pots to split the pickups. I have a SD Jazz and Aldrich neck in my '73 LP custom again with push pull tone pots to split the pickups. The split Aldrich neck is nicker than the split SD jazz....

BTW do you still have your Anderson H3 and if so what guitar is that in? I have my Anderson H2+ in the brigde of my strat, good split tones on that pickup too, doesn't split as well as the Aldrich bridge though.

I actually have the H3 in the bridge of this GMW, Brian! :) It sounds rippin in this particular guitar. I'll have to grab an Aldrich neck and wire up a 5 way switch to split the Aldrich and H3, fingers crossed it should sound great!

I have them in 2 of my Suhrs. I am able to split them on the bridge and the neck. Sound great in both positions. This pickup has become my fave. Dude it rips through the Cali. Youll love it.

You think it pulls off the "Is This Love Tone" lead tone and isn't too bassy? How you like the bridge version?

Absolutely, if you roll down the tone pot a few notches it nails that tone. I'm using a Cali Mod Marshall JMP which accounts for a bunch of that tone though, as the mod has a bit of a bumped upper midrange.. so it really sings when i use the Aldrich neck pickup

I have the Aldrich pickups in my 78 LP Custom and they sound amazing, definitely my fav pickups so far  Especially good sounding with the Cali!

Glad to hear everyone's having great results when using split coil wiring with the Aldrich pickups, i'm sold on getting the Aldrich neck for my GMW now

Ive got an Aldrich in the bridge and had one in the neck, but the '59 does the Sykes thing WAY better. Tried them both in my Custom and the '59 won out. I have the Aldrich neck pup with a Dirty Fingers in my other custom. The '59 splits and cleans up nicer too IMO

Both neck and bridge split really well. I'd definately recommend them.

Funnily enough i found the opposite, the Aldrich was much better for the Sykes thing in my LP Custom. BUT.. my LP Custom has a 3pc maple neck/ebony board, rather than the mahogany neck on most LP Customs. So mine has a lot more upper mid and less low mids/bass, which is why the Aldrich worked better for me :)

I don't know if he uses the guitar a lot or not, but I sold and installed a set of gold Bare Knuckle Mules to Sykes about a year ago. I put it in a super-worn cream Les Paul Custom. Forgot what year the guitar was. Anyway, John said he loved the pickups. I don't really follow him that much, so you guys might know more about that guitar or if you've seen him using it.
