After going back and forth between the two, i bought the Aldrich. ( Mark Day Video's really sold me) Its big, full and has a nice tone for sure. But, after a awhile i noticed i lost a lot of sustain. Especially when i went to solo. This really surprised me,
being this is hot of a pickup i wasn't expecting that. another thing was the high end side (e.b strings) were noticeably louder than the low end. i had to adjust it almost like a strat pickup. Thinking im gonna try a motor city next. What model would be in the same output and tone range of the Aldrich?

So what you're saying is you're not 100% pumped on the Aldrich

Was it installed by a good tech??

V.

not 100% no. as far as the tech, hes local guy been here for 30 years.
just surprised it doesn't have more sizzle to them. tone wise good
feel wise kinda thuddy if makes since

warmoth strat with pickguard. i had mini screaming demons in there before
and they have very low putput

I had one in a les paul and it certainly didn't lack sustain. This may be a stupid question; but how close do you have the pick up from the strings? I try to get mine as close as possible without it causing any interference and wierd noises etc.

I've got them factory direct in my mahog. maple Suhr modern that looks a lot like Marks.
I agree with 5150 on many points - the pups don't do a whole lot for me, sound nothing like Marks - but he may still have the on board booster in his modern.
Wade at MCP advised going with 2nd degree BB's or AFWAYU. I had his Detroiters previously in another guitar and those might work well in a mahog/maple configuration.

Not to be a smart ass but if the lower strings sound louder than the higher strings, try playing a bit with pickup height

I dont think there is anything from MCP that is equal to the Aldrich. I have a set in a strat. I like them alot but to me they honestly sound like a pumped up JB. Seriously. A JB but bigger

I have my pickups pretty close to the strings. I still have the EMG SPC control in both the Modern and my LP. Two reasons I have the SPC:
1. It's buffered.
2. It makes a nice boost.
I find myself turning it closer to off or right off. I often have it up for solos.

I went from super hot Blackouts to the Aldrich pu's. They are not as hot as the AHBs but I am very pleased with the change. I find the tone more harmonically complex with the Aldrich's. I do use a Koko Boost as I did with the AHBs. I find no loss of sustain, if I did they would be gone and I would put the actives back in. Pickup wise I have used actives since the 80's. I have tried many passives and they usually last a day at the most.

I feel bad that you don't like them especially since you based your purchase on my videos.
If you really like what you hear in my vids, why not throw in an SPC into the mix? Or the Koko, it's a killer boost.

ive been using the screaming demons for so long i guess i just expected these to be over the top in way. maybe my expectations were too high. i do love the tone like i said, big, full the voicing etc. and of course i adjusted the pickup height to compensate. thats the first time ive done that with a humbucker. Their a little muted sounding when i go to solo. when im playing rhythm its less noticeable.

Odd... the thing I like about the Aldrichs is the lack of high end sizzle, and the gobs of everything else going on. :) Playing with the string height on them does make a significant difference.
