I have a set that came in my Suhr MS7 (modern satin 7 string). I bought the guitar in December and I was only able to play around with it a little bit due to work in a different city. But today I spent a good 3 or 4 hours jamming on it through my Uber and UberKab. I have a set of BKP Cold Sweats that I was going to put in there, but i wanted to check out the 7 Hots first.
I am not so sure about replacing them after spending some time with them. The one thing I did change that seemed to open them up a lot and add a more wide open attacking sound was I snipped the wire going to the Tone knob so it's completely removed. That made a world of difference to me. They were great sounding before, but afterwards, it sounded like someone removed a thin blanket off the speaker cab. More mids, loud, punchy, grinding. But not harsh. I really like them a lot. I will still put the BKP Cold Sweats in because I just got to hear what they sound like in the guitar, but I'm not sure that's permanent. I will definitely hold on to the 7 hot's, I have a KxK all African Mahogany that they may be perfect for.
I think they will fit your mahogany guitar great, they are really high output but totally clear. The high notes sound so full and clear, bell like sometimes. There is also a little wah like growl to them which I love. I think you will be happy, much better than the Dactivators. I have a Dactivator neck in my KxK mahogany guitar and it is good, but I think the 7 hot's are better in that type of guitar.
