Really gassing for a new suhr modern satin but my nearest dealer is about 3hrs away to try them out so i wanted to get educated the best I could before deciding on making the trip. My only concern is since I have always been a les paul guy the neck on the modern will be to thin for me (recently got rid of a ltd ec-1000 because the neck was a very thin u and very flat on the back).
Also the one im looking at has the gotoh 510 trem on it. Will i be able to set the trem up so i can tune down to d standard ok then go to drop c during a set?
Any info would be appreciated!

Basically all I play are LP's. I was worried about the neck shape also but to be honest it's very comfortable. I can come straight off my LP and it doesn't feel odd at all. It's definately thinner but not uncomfortable like an Ibanez is to me. I have a FR so I can't comment on the trem. One thing I can say is they're light as hell and sound great.

The guitar above may have the Guthrie Govan neck shape rather than the Elliptical shape. The Modern I owned with the
elliptical shape was really thin, way closer to an Ibanez. The GG neck is thicker so may want to try that

There are some options, yet the satin's are NOT custom. You just don't have as much choice. I believe the neck width is fixed at 1.650 on the satins...no options in that regard. You do have a trem option.
The Gotoh trems are great, locking tuners keep them in tune very well.
However, as far as down-tuning DURING a show...NO WAY. They are still floating, unless you block it, which IMO defeats the purpose, but YMMV.
No problem tuning them to drop D, but then that's it. As with ANY trem guitar really. There are ways people have tried to "deal" and "get around" this, however, a floating trem just doesn't make changing to different tunings easy. For gigs, I bring a separate guitar for each tuning, and a spare (usually).

If you choose Custom, then you can have many options as far as neck shape and radius. You can literally do almost anything...within reason. I mean, you choose woods (body, neck, fretboard), frets, radius, top, pickups, trems, tuners, the list is on the Suhr site.

You'll know after a few minutes if it's "your" guitar. Personally, I would keep as open mind as possible, not "comparing" to Les Paul...it's gonna feel different, but AWESOME.
I would DEFINITELY try one...First time I played a Suhr, I was hooked. So watch out, LOL

I played 2 of them today. I prefer small necks so I liked them. They are small necks but the frets and beefy and it's a very shred friendly neck. But the guitar felt really light, like really light. It was a black one so I didn't like it looked, and it really a little raw but I guess that's the way it's intended.

I've got two of them, a natural one and a black one. I personally love the Satin Moderns. I've had many Customs, but now I'm down to one and it'll go before the Satins. They are indeed very light. I really like the neck specs which comes with the Guthrie Govan .800-.850 shape but with a 14" fb radius instead of 16". If you want the thickest (.820-.870), you'll have to go Custom. Admittedly, they aren't much to look at compared to a tricked out Custom, but they play very nicely and sound great. Just know that the satin (matte) finish will leave shiny spots where your hands make contact. On the natural one, it's not really noticeable unless viewed from an angle, but they show up big time on the black one, so keep that in mind.

I have 2. One has the thicker neck profile and one is thinner. The thicker one is not as thick as a Les Paul and the thinner one is not as thin as a Wizard. They are super comfy. If you tend towards LPs, get the thicker profile. They're both great feeling necks.

I have played a few moderns and have owned two myself. I have owned a suhr modern satin with floyd rose and 14" radius. I felt like that radius is not ideal for a floyd rose nut. I now own a suhr modern frost with a bone nut and 10-14" radius and the gg neck thickness and i feel like its the best neck i have ever played. It is more like a d neck but sexier and thinner.

Im looking at a black satin hh with the gotoh 510. Im a les paul guy so the floyd would be too intimidating lol!

If you're an LP guy and want a strat shaped body, no floyd, with the ability to split the coils for close, not exact, strat tones then maybe check this out. I've played my DGT next to a few LP's and tonewise it's not that far off. Much closed to LP tones than any Suhr I've ever played.
