Suhr Riot or Barber Dirty Bomb?

I am looking for a pedal to run to the front of a 60 watt all tube 2x12 combo at low volume for practice/recording at home without blowing the windows out (or waking the new baby :scared:) The pedal can't be too edgy or fizzy and needs to be nice and full. Looking for good liquid leads with a lot of saturation and sustain. Would be nice to get as close to my cranked 5150III tone in a little box I can run at low volume. I think I have narrowed it down to these two. I am open for suggestions if someone knows of another good one.
Thanks in advance (the wife thanks you also :D )

I haven't used the Suhr pedal, but I'm a huge fan of the Barber Dirty Bomb. Really a good distortion pedal, great clarity and crunch but gets really heavy too.

For your cranked 5150 III sound I was blown away by the Steve Vai Ibanez Jemini pedal. It's 2 pedals: an overdrive side and a distortion side. The red distortion side sounded like a nice high gain tube amp. I was very impressed. I actually bought it and used it with my 5150 III and tried to match the sounds and got in the ball park with it but not perfect. I ended up taking it back to get a TC Nova Drive which was abetter fit for me. It wasn't really what I was loking for but I was really impressed by it.

+1 I really like the Dirty Bomb as well. Haven't tried the Riot yet. I did add a treble bypass cap on the volume pot per Dave Barber, to tame the high end fizz I got when using the Dirty bomb through vintage amps with vintage speakers. Through other speakers, like CL80's, V30's, etc, I wouldn't need this. but those Weber Jensen clones, seem to emphasize the fizzy range.

dont fear the muff

the barber is pretty damn cool, imo. sounds diecent for 100 bucks to

Yeah, if you stick with V30 (I use a Emi Wizard) you don't get that fizz. Great pedal, especially for the $100 or so it costs.

Yeah, I have been using the Metal Muff (larger one) and really like it, but I was wondering if there is something better. The Muff seams a bit fizzy and doesn't seem to have as much sustain. Also, it sounds good at low volume (which is my main goal) but if I do crank it a bit it seems to thin out. It would be nice to have something a little more versatile.

I have a Dirty Bomb, and I love it. It's the most amp-like of the pedals I've tried.

However, I use a SUF Triangle at the moment. UNREAL.

Good thought. I have read up on the Jemini but never played one. Maybe I'll head over to my friendly neighborhood GC and check it out. What I love about GC is I can take it home and try it out on my amp and take it back if I don't like it. Having the overdrive there would be handy also and may help thicken things up by pushing the tubes if I want to crank the volume. Thanks for the idea.

Haven't done research on the SUF Triangle. Do you like it better than the Dirty Bomb then?

depends what I'm playing.

hard rock, heavy metal, leads, tighter stuff, Marshally stuff, etc. = Dirty Bomb.

post-rock, stoner, instrumental, doom, douchegaze, alternative, 70's, 90's, ambient, etc = SUF Muff (Triangle, Civil War, or Violet Ram's Head)
