Just finished installing the Suhr SSH+ in my Les Paul. So far, I really like this pickup. It has the same general tonality as the Suhr Aldrich, but you can actually roll back the volume knob and get a nice clean out of it. The mids are just magic!

How is it with high gain? I know the Aldrich is based off the SSH+ just with bumped mids. Is it close to the Aldrich or different? I was thinking about buying one, but if its not much different than the Aldrich I wont bother.

I love this pickup. I have one in my Guthrie. It does high gain very well imo.

Have a Aldrich in my Modern and really like it, kind of considering getting an SSH+, did you have an Aldrich before?

Yes, I had an Aldrich in the same guitar a few months ago. I hated it. It was great at high gain, but I couldn't get it to back down "right." The mids are different on the SSH+. They are there, and they have this really cool growl or grind- not sure exactly how to describe it. It's chewier than the Aldrich. It feels more touch sensitive- as in if you change your pick attach, it changes the dynamics of the pickup. Lack of dynamics was my main complaint with the Aldrich. So far, I'm really loving the SSH+.

I like the Aldrich, but it's really tight. Your description is dead on what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Yeah, check it out.

Does your Les Paul have the ability to split the coil?

With my Les Pauls that have the Aldrich bridge, if I want less output, I just split the coil and the Aldrich does that really well. From your description, sounds like I would like the SSH+. If I changed the Aldrich though, I would probably go for something less hot, like the SSH or SSV+.

Big fan of the SSH+ pickup as well. I've got it in both of my Moderns and also will be in my soon-to-be-built 3rd Modern. I considered an Aldrich at one point, but there is just something about that pickup that I don't like.

+1, the Aldrich splits really well I love it!

meh,

I had 3 or 4 SSH+/DSH+ pups before I got an Aldrich.

IMO, the Aldrich has a less pronounced midrange, and better cleans. More of a "V" voice, vs. the "H" voice.

I'm not going back. The Aldrich works MUCH better for what I play.
