Super Small Rig idea

Do you guys think this would work for a classic rock band.

I have been using an AC30CC1 when I play guitar, but I am playing keys 80% of the time. I thought about getting a Sansamp GT2, but I just canceled the order.

I was thinking of going:
Guitar--> pedalboard--> Fender Champion 600 --> EV N/D468 (mic) --> Channel 2 input of Traynor K4 keyboard amp.

The traynor then has a line out to the main mixer. I was just going to run a sansamp GT-2 into the traynor keyboard amp, but then I thought of this idea with the Champion 600 amp.

I don't own the Champion 600, but I am thinking about picking one up. I am looking for something light and that sounds good. Let me know what you guys think....

The traynor keyboard amp is basically a small PA. I was going to go with the GT-2 direct into the traynor, but there were a couple of things I didn't like. The sansamp was not supposed to have the best speaker emulation and I am not sure how easy it would be to adjust on the fly. Also I think I would miss the feedback that I get from tube amps. That is why I am considering a small amp like the Champion 600. I have a line 6 verbzilla for reverb, that would help no matter how I go, I hear the sansamp needs some delay or reverb to help it out.

The biggest concern I have is that the miced signal of the champion 600 will be delayed and mess up my timing or that the 6 1/2in speaker even upgraded to a weber won't cut it.

One thing you should consider is that the Champs don't have much headroom at all. I've never tried the 600 but the old tweed Champ I have has zero headroom....which may be a problem (or not) depending on how dynamic your playing style is. Also, I would bypass the mic and just add a line out from the speaker (easy mod). Having said that, I love the little Champ amps. Everyone should have one.

You might consider the Tech 21 trademark 10. Great little amp, very versatile, direct out to the board if you wish. I have a TM60 and while its not displacing either of my tube amps, I'd have no problems using it at a gig, totally dependable.

I am going to be micing the amp no matter what, got plenty of mics. A line out from the speaker into my keyboard amp would blow the input of the amp up, kind of confused what you are thinking of here.

I am not too worried about headroom, I don't play clean much and will probably switch from a LP to a strat if that is an issue. I can always crank up the miced sound and turn down the amp if I need more clean headroom as well. The biggest concern I have is with the 6" speaker, that it will have enough bass and not fart out.

What year is your champ, got any pictures?

I have played a Tech21 trademark 10, nice little amp. The only thing is I am looking for the feel of tubes, and the Tech21 trademark 10 while it sounds great, is missing that feel.

Sorry, for not being clearer. I remember reading in one of Gerald Weber's books about an easy mod for Champs to get a line level signal off of the speaker. I think all you need is two resistors, a 1/4" phone jack, and some wire. I'll look it up if you want.

I had a '73 Vibrochamp (had a lot more headroom than my tweed) that I made a new cabinet for...10" speaker:

Here's my super-cool '61 Champ (I believe the last year for tweed):

And quite possibly cooler than the Champ, a Supro Chicago 51 thrown in just for the heck of it:

You will have a headroom issue with the Champ. Go at least 20 watts and even then its hard to get a clean sound at any kinda volume. I use a 20 watt and keep the pedalboard very hot so the amp is getting a very strong signal to the preamp. The two things on my board that really help are the GE7 and the BBE pedal.

Awesome collection Argonaut4. I really like that '61 tweed champ, that looks sweet.....

I am not looking for a pristine clean at all, in fact on the few songs I play guitar on I rarely play clean. I figure I can turn the champion down and the keyboard amp up and get some more headroom. I plan to use a Danelectro fish and chips EQ and a MI audio Blues Deluxe for a boost.

I didn't find the Vox AC15TBX lacking in headroom, just overall lacking in volume, but then again I didn't mic it in practice.

I am just tried of hauling my full sized rig for 10 or so songs out of 50, it just seems a waste. That is why I am looking for small, cheap and light. Having a nice little practice amp would rock too.

Thanks for the feedback, though, just not sure if there is a good solution for what I want to do at this point.

I have a small lightweight setup that works well. I start with a pedalboard 16 X 32 that holds various dist/overdrives a delay, tremelo, and eq and BBE at the end. From there to a tube reverb and on to my 59 Guild 20 watt with a single 12" spk. Lots of vol and good overdrive and clean in a fairly small package. Takes about 5 minutes to setup. The pedalboard is the heavy part of my setup. If you don't care about clean then the smaller amps will work fine.

Part of the problem is not only weight but budget, not looking to spend more than $200-300 and I don't really want to mess with those Line 6 PODXT lives or Vox Valvtronix tonelab floorboards.

This amp looks pretty cool, no idea what it will get up to though... https://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-VINTAGE-TWEED- ... dZViewItem

The fender Pro Jr might work too. I suppose I can always get the Champion 600, and just make sure the store has a 45 day return policy if it doesn't work for me.

My 20 watt Guild looks just like that except its grey. Mine sounds great and has been my main amp in use for the 15 years or so. Grab it for under 200 and it should do the job plus its cool looking and likely similar to Fenders of that vintage. The Guilds are cheap but suitable substitutes for old vintage gear without the big price tag.
