Super strat strings. 9's or 10's?

I have 10's on my LP's and like the tension. I just picked up a So Cal today and put 9's on it due to the scale difference. They seem way too light. The action is a touch high on the G,B, and high E strings so I think I am going to try to locate a good local tech to set it up with 10's.

Anyone know of a good Floyd tech in Cleveland?

Try a set of 9.5's.

I thought of that but then I remembered that I hate putting strings on a Floyd and my hands eat strings. I have to use Elixirs.

Depends on the individual guitar, but usually 9's for me.

I use 10-46 on 2 of my strats and 10-52 on one of my strats. I use 10-46 on my Les Pauls too, I don't mind the difference, even with the scale difference.

You could go with 11's on your LP and 10's on your strat :)

10s. I cant even play 9s anymore. The guitar feels like a toy with them on. The tone is much improved with 10s as well.

I have decided to go to 10's. I spent some time with it last night and I just get too excited when I play and my heavy hand just doesn't feel right with 9's. I am not a finesse player.

I found a local guy that comes highly rec'd so I am going to try and get my $10 out of the fresh Elixirs that I just put on there over the weekend and then drop it off next week to get a pro set up.

I'm back to 9's and having fun! Even went with 9's on my Les Pauls and PRS's.

I just got an Anderson Drop Top. With 9's it was redicoulus, i couldn't play it since it felt like there was nothing there. I went with 10-46's and it feels much better, still feels like the string tension is really loose and that's tuned to standard. Maybe this guitar is just that easy to play?

I also threw 10's back on my PRS and they feel great.

I actually prefer the tone of them as well over 10's...I like the high end snap.

Yup... more percussive. 10's are almost too fat.

I'm finding the same thing with my GMW Superstrat! I hadn't touched the guitar in months, and had been playing my LP Custom which has 10-46. Now when i went back to the GMW after a long break from using it, it feels too easy for me so i think 10-46's will be an improvement overall and make it feel more 'normal' to me.

I think with my GMW, it's just a very easy playing guitar.. because i struggled using 10's on the other Superstrats i owned in the past!

10's for me, Swapped out the strings in a few of my guitars last week and put 10's on all of them, much prefer them to 9's now. I used to be a big fan of 9's but they just feel too slinky now that I have gotten really used to 10's.

It's wierd isn't it. I was going to start a thread about this. I owned a PRS McCarty a few years ago, and whatever i did on that guitar setup wise, the string tension on that thing was a BEAR. A set of 10's felt like 13's. I went to 9's and they were still really stiff. I own another McCarty now and a set of 10's on it feels perfect. I have done most of my own setup work but there's definitely something going on with the setup process that seems to affect string tension. And I'm talking tuned to standard tuning.

This Anderson i have now, the 10's on it feel like 9's. And on my friend guitar that he has, he said he had 10's on it and i didn't believe it since 10's on a recent LP i owned felt a lot stiffer.

I'm not sure if it's truss rod adjustment, sting height, frets, or a combination of all. But in most situations, i feel 10's sound better.

Not always.. The increased string size & string tension can 'choke' some guitars, and that's an actual term used by string manufacturers. My LP DC feels awesome and plays great with 10's, but it sounds stiff & dead because the resonance & sustain are choked. Put a set of 9's on it and it springs to life.

I like 9's as well but for the dropped d stuff Dean Markley Custom lights are pretty cool.

i have a very light picking touch, but a somewhat heavy hand. always played 9-42's, still do.

i can play and have played 10's-46's, but i honestly dont feel like setting up my guitars for 10's, at least not for now.

with that being said, my charvel was setup for 10's when i bought it. the resonance was sick and the guitar did sound better, but playing wise with wide stretches and such, i didnt care for it enough to keep it that way. so i changed it back to 9's.

9's just feel right to me. but then again like i said, i have a very VERY light touch with heavy accients and a light picking hand. so thats what works for me :)

I tend to keep the same size strings on based on scale.

25.5" = 9s
24.75" = 10s
24" = 12s (I have a duo sonic that rocks with these cables on it)
