Looking at iMacs and am wondering if anyone has ever used Apples Crrtified Refrib store? Anything I should know about? It still comes with a year warranty like the new models and I could save some cash.

I've bought one (MacBook Pro for my wife) and have recommended them for others, and no one's ever been disappointed. They look absolutely brand new, nothing wrong with them. And you can still get AppleCare, which I always do. The refurb iMacs are a great deal.

This one looks good:

I think the 27" iMacs are neat, but they're just so damn big. I literally don't have the space for it.

Yeah I would love the 27", but the damn thing would be a foot away from my face. I think that would be a bit much.

I had a bad experience with a refurb iPhone 4 but it had been refurbed from AT&T, not Apple. And the fact that it still comes with a warranty really has me interested.

My Macbook Pro was a apple-direct purchase. Have had it for over 1 year now and have had ZERO issues with it. I just upgraded the RAM in it yesterday to 8GB for my new synth bundle. It's been perfect. Totally perfect, and they've got your back with warranty etc.

Awesome way to go. And for the record - it arrived in all the usual brand new packaging and the like... I would have never known this to be a 'refurb' had it not been I who ordered.

If you didn't buy the extended warranty you now are on your own.

and the warranty is still killer.

I mean no it isn't. Its one fucking year. That is completely standard in the industry for low end parts. My PC system has a 3 year advanced replacement warranty for no extra cost (meaning they ship me new parts without me sending anything back). That is appreciably better.

I've got the 21" and it's been plenty big for me. I had the same thought you had - 27" a foot and half from your face is kinda odd.

Great machines either way.

I Just got a 27" Refurb last week, Honestly cant tell its not a brand new machine zero problems with it. Love it wish i wold have made the jump sooner TBH

I wouldnt hesetate to buy refurbed again

Not sure what you will be doing on the machine but id pick up some extra ram, I got this 16GB for around 80 bucks cant beat it

I've used Apple products extensively over the last 12+ years. Warranty is what warranty is, funny thing about Apple is you tend not to need a warranty

Bought a Mac book pro brand new, then bought a iMac. I couln't tell the difference IMO. If you don't know by now nopthing compares to Apple
Ventura said it best, with Apple your don't really need to use the warranty thats why I bought an Apple.

Thanks guys! I really want a 27" but think I will stick o the 21.5".

I have had a mac pro for about 4-5 years now. It is still running like a champ. No crashes, no viruses, no problems. It is total, and complete overkill for what I use it for, but I like having 4 hard drives, and 16 GB of ram. Also two quad core Xeon processors are crazy fast. I am even thinking that when I upgrade the OS next I might put in a SS hard drive for my main one with all applications, and the OS on it just to see what difference it makes. The prices sure have come down on those drives over the last year or two.

i bought my MacBook 4 years ago off the Refurb list...zero issue. and it still smokes most new PCs!!

never really got the appeal of imacs. MacBook pro specs and internal limitations in a non-portable package. they do look cool though. id opt for a mini and cheap monitor myself, if determined to get a desktop.

My last couple machines prior to this imac were powerbook and macbook pros. Nothing against them but I find myself not needing to be portable anymore. And this machine can stand up to the abuse my kids dish out a little better than a laptop.

I love the design. It's a good machine regardless. But to pull it out of the box, connect the power cord, and you're done. That was sweet. No cable spaghetti everywhere, no fan noise. Very sleek.

So have I, and my current one had the logic board replaced at my insistance, no hassle, 2 months after the original warranty expired, because I had AppleCare.

They're great machines, they're reliable, but they're still computers made in China. Ironically, out of all the Macs I've been responsible for purchasing for my company, only my personal Mac at home that I bought had a problem.

My first Mac actually belonged to my Dad...an original. So I guess you could say I've been using them since 1984. But I got my first in '95. I've owned upwards of 20 personal machines if you count the iPads...I've never purchased AppleCare for any of them.

I only almost got bit once - I had a powerbook with a graphics chip that would overheat. It burned out the logic board twice. The first time the warranty had expired, but they replaced it for free anyway. The second time, the machine was so old that I just bought a new one.

Long story short, I would have no problem buying refurbed and skipping the applecare. If you can afford the applecare then by all means go for it. But if you skip it, it's not a huge risk IMO. Not because the hardware is any better than PCs or anything...I'm sure they are all made in the same sweatshops. But just because needing the warranty for ANY purchase is statistically pretty rare. That's why they try so hard to sell them to you!
