Looking at iMacs and am wondering if anyone has ever used Apples Crrtified Refrib store? Anything I should know about? It still comes with a year warranty like the new models and I could save some cash.

Are you sure you are cool enough to own a mac? I walked into the apple store and sent me packing, said I wasn't cool enough..... ;)

never really got the appeal of imacs. MacBook pro specs and internal limitations in a non-portable package. they do look cool though. id opt for a mini and cheap monitor myself, if determined to get a desktop.

My last couple machines prior to this imac were powerbook and macbook pros. Nothing against them but I find myself not needing to be portable anymore. And this machine can stand up to the abuse my kids dish out a little better than a laptop.

I love the design. It's a good machine regardless. But to pull it out of the box, connect the power cord, and you're done. That was sweet. No cable spaghetti everywhere, no fan noise. Very sleek.
im the type that likes to upgrade bits here and there, which is a gripe with laptops... and all the apple desktops cept the pro. i still do upgrades on my macbook pro and on imacs/minis for friends but most people arent comfortable popping macs open. if someone just wants a plug and play thing, i guess its cool. it stills seems cheaper to me to get a mac mini and cheap monitor. imac is still a good computer and looks great, but those price tags are starling when it compare it to the portability of a laptop or mac mini... same specs in all of em, or close enough. with the imac you are really paying a lot of money for that big snazzy screen.

Well my 4 year old $300 Gateway I have been making all my music and YouTube videos on would not think so.

I bought a refurbished mini, macbook and Macbook pro, never had any issues and saved some $$$

I've always bought new, but for other reasons (student discounts, which are sometimes even better than refurb prices) not because I was afraid of the refurbs. My best friend ALWAYS buys from the refurb store, and if you think about it, they are "checked" machines....that have been tried......some had problems which got fixed, some other are just barely used computers.

A lot of the time they even come "loaded" with extra ram from the previous owner or added HD size which apple never charges you.

it's a WIN in my book.

Next computer I buy from apple will be a refurb

I bought a referb mac back in 2002 from small dog. Never had an issue.

FYI, there is a Mac Pro for sale in the classifieds right now for a killer price. http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=110948 Engage is only asking $1900 or best offer!

That thing has a shitload of power and you'd be set for many, many years. With the Xeon processors and 8 cores, and 22 GIGS of RAM :scared: you'd have enough power for anything. The 8-core Pros start at $3500 and he has a lot of money in upgraded RAM. I'd buy it if I could. Of course, you'd have to add a monitor but a nice 27" can be had for cheap these days.

My MacPro is a refurb. If I remember correctly I saved about $300.00. I've had it about two years, no issues whatsoever.

Have had 3 Macs and couple of iPods/iPhones from the refurb store....all have been flawless and indistinguishable from news except the service packaging is plain box.

The most recent iMac I really lucked out on because it was a CTO and still had double the stock RAM in it...guess they forgot to take it out...saved me about $100.

NO issues. Go for it! I own an 8-core 2.93gHz Mac Pro that was refurbished.
