I have been listening to this song non stop again lately, and have verified that it is one of my favorite tones. Anyone know gear set up....I am guessing Boogie on this song.
Somehow it combines the perfect grit and smooth sustain for my ear.

WANT NOW! hahaha

That was recorded straight away as soon as he joined Whitesnake, when they were finishing off the Slide It In record.

Who knows what was used.. what i was told, he spent a day adding some overdubs to the already finished album. The version with his overdubs was the US released version and the UK version didnt have any Sykes playing on it at all

On that song, its more then likely a Marshall and if I remember correctly there are two versions of that album and John only beefed up some parts and added some solos. Drew on this forum should be able to give you the scoop!!

Im pretty sure you're spot on that John would've used a Marshall on the Solos and overdubs he did... Most likely the 4 input JCM800's he had at the time when he crossed over from Thin Lizzy to Whitesnake

If memory serves this tone can be had with an XTCs Blue channel. I don't know what was actually used.

After the 87 album all other WS tones are doomed....................just that good and yeah slaved boogies will do that :D

I am thinking of emailing John himself....the main riff sounds marshall to me, but the chorus sounds boogie. Fuck it...I will email him, not that he will remember.

Email Drew (Webmaster at JohnSykes' site), and see if he knows.. If he doesnt, he could probably find out as i think he talks with John Sykes on a regular basis!

There was no Boogie on slide it in. John Got them after. I hear the tone and its definitely Marshall based either with a pedal or modded. In either case, Drew will no but Im definitely not hearing any Boogie. The 87 album has boogie all over it :D

We do that song and Im up in the air as to which version it is, Mel Calley or Sykes.. Great song BTW
