Have you heard the "Rock Album?" The way he picks the part right before the solo/run you don't catch in the song at all. First time I heard it picked like that.

Does he play the clean part on a mesa, or did he use a Jazz Chorus Roland or something else?

Wow. I’ve been playing several parts of that song wrong. Lol! This is a benchmark in heavy rock tone for me. It doesn’t get much better.

Great stuff
I’m kind of surprised that the opening of that solo is a bit choppy. In the mix it sounds amazing

also kind sad how he didn’t even stick around in the project for the videos or tour& basically disappeared from that Huge success

David coverdale fired the entire band after it was recorded.

He formed Blue Murder and they had a killer first album.

Yeah, he fired the whole band, but I thought he fired Sykes separately from the other two, more or less. I thought it was mainly because Coverdale was out of commission for awhile with throat problems or something, and Sykes wanted to move on without Coverdale, was tired of waiting on him. Even brought up the idea of replacing Coverdale. Ultimately, that was what got Sykes fired. Whatever the reason was, Coverdale still, to this day, has NEVER replaced Sykes. He’s had some great guitarist in the WS lineup, but what he and Sykes did was pure magic.

check out the digital split channel on youtube. lots of artists. I've been playing many songs incorrectly, including still of the night. BTW, why did they kill off that huge pick scrape in the final version? it's in there, but not nearly as scary as hearing it isolated. great stuff

not sure about the clean parts. you can see some jazz chorus amps in this awesome video:

Boogie MKIII Coliseum x2
Lexicon PCM41 in stereo - slight modulation

stereo rig, double tracked (4 tracks total)

Kinda like this:

I know a lot of guitarists like Blue Murder (not me, vocals/songs did not hold my attention), but that Whitesnake release was worldwide Michael Jackson level huge. The general public really didn't know or care about Sykes after that, just a fleeting moment. I heard some more recent Sykes stuff & it kind of sucked. Just funny how you could be king of the world and then a total nonfactor in the blink of an eye.

So great! I don't care if I or anyone plays it just like that. Some of the parts are indistinguishable from the actual tune. He plays it with such swagger and attitude. That's where most players miss the mark. It's the intangibles that I miss in most covers.
