So I was messing with my modules and decided to see how some sounded through my Mesa Titan bass amp. I tried the Synergy IICP & Pitbull. and Randall Blackface. Results were mixed, but I did discover that some modules could be completely viable for bass.
The IICP & Pitbull sounded like ass. You may be able to get away with using them on the low gain channel with the gain turned all the way down. I think these being high gain modules don't lend themselves well for bass. Mostly sounded like a can of angry bees doing their best Darth Vader/James Earl Jones impression.
The Blackface module on the other hand sounded excellent. This sounding good isn't entirely surprising since the module is based off a Fender Twin, which I believe isn't that far off from their bass amp circuits of the era. Through the Mesa it was very punchy and articulate and had enough low end to feel like a bass amp. I didn't even need to max out the bass knob. A little past noon was enough to bring the thump. Once I started to roll up the gain knob it transitioned into a really nice crunchy distortion with the right amount of fuzz. I don't care for the Blackface module much with guitar (not really my style) but it has definitely found a spot with my bass amp.
This makes me want to get a couple of other modules that normally I wouldn't be interested in and try them out on bass. Those who do the Synergy/Randall module thing... Have any of you tried them with bass amps? If so what were the results?
