I saw a 2009 1x12 Mesa cab on GC’s used website listed in good condition for $199.99. Looked at the description and it said it has a EVM12L speaker. Wow! Here’s the kicker though, since it was just listed there was no pic available yet. Decided to take a shot on it and see what I end up with. I‘m thinking it’s probably an open back cab but would love if it was closed. The realist in me is expecting something to be wonky though.

Let‘s have some fun with this. Post what you think I’ll end up receiving. Anyone for a stripped out combo shell with a speaker held in by sheetrock screws.

I’m betting it’s an open back since they know the speaker. Hopefully they boot up correctly since one good drop and that speaker will rip away from those screws.

Yesterday was delivery day. I opened the box and it was indeed a Mesa open back cab (the smaller size), but the speaker was not the EVM12L as advertised, but instead a G12K-85. I was disappointed because I really wanted to try the EVM due to its almost mythical status. So I plugged in my Mesa V25 to give it a go and see what I’ve got.

Honestly, I was pretty surprised. I don’t really know anything about that speaker, but it sounded really big for being in a smaller open back cab. The bass was big without being overwhelming and tracked nice and tight. The mids were warm and focused. The highs let just enough sizzle come through without sounding buzzy. It sounded great with any amount of dirt/distortion. For clean sounds, it’s very full and warm across the board. I’ll probably have to turn the mids down on the amp to give a little more sparkle and less in-your-face tone. Overall, not a bad find on the cheap.

The G12K85 is one of my favorite speakers. Great for metal especially. Big tight low end!

Sucks but the upside with GC is their return policy. I did the same thing once with a PRS Private Stock, ultimately wasn't happy and it went back to questions asked. Worth the gamble....

I have a few of the old EVM's around. They are nice and they are definitely heavy. They're very clear, almost PA-like, for a guitar speaker.

G12k-85 is a great speaker. Can definitely achieve some brutal tones with it.

"Take a gamble, take a gamble!" - a phrase often used to encourage people to participate in gambling. The phrase implies that there is an element of risk in this activity, but the potential rewards are worth it for those willing to take the risk. Although some people enjoy the excitement and potential winnings of gambling, it is important to remember that risk is always present. And I am one of those people, I make a lot of money gambling on a good online platform https://jokaroomvip.com/login jokaviproom casino login page in AU. With an insane amount of bonuses, a huge variety of games, instant withdrawal. A great way to make money.
Tits?

Here's how you can get an EVM12L or EVM12S for cheap. They're the exact same speaker that's in their P.A. speakers. People list them for $100 or less all the time on CL. For example - EVM12L $100.00
https://westernmass.craigslist.org/msg/d/adams-electro-voice-fm12-floor-monitor/7656427207.html

I've gotten at least a half dozen EV speakers this way and each time it was for a pair of speakers. $200 was the most for 2 EV monitors with EVM12S speakers, the cheapest was for $75.00 for 2 EVM12L speakers that came with 3-75' heavy duty speaker cables that probably sold for $75 each.

How much different are the EVM12S from the EVM12L?
I've seen them on CL fairly often within little pa cabs, but every time they've been the S version.
