I am thinking about redoing a rig for gigging. A lot of classic/hard rock ZZtop, Halen, Pat Travers, KISS, etc.

Thinking either a Vintage Modern 100w or maybe a DSL 100w. Not sure on the cab, either 2x12 or 4x12 Marshall probably. Something to cut like a knife, have a huge roar but be simple as well. You know, 2 channels is plenty with a few pedals and all should be good.

Anyone here gig with a VM or DSL and can give me some pointers? I have been using Peavey's and Fenders forever and for some reason I think I need to have some Marshall going on now.

DSl 50 watter, boost pedal and delay...You're done.

+1

Cab and speaker choice to suit taste

No VM experience here but I've been through some JCM2000's.

haven't played a vm yet.. but i do have a dsl 100. as the others have said.. pick a cab and some pedals to suit your tastes. plenty of gain for most applications and of course the marshall roar. i don't have any real complaints about mine except that it needs to be re-capped.. but it's ten years old.

Recapped after only 10 years?

yeah.. one of the filter caps has been going bad for awhile. i've been checking some other forums as well and it seems to be more common of a problem than i thought. if i'm going to be digging around i might as well do the whole thing and put some decent caps in there. sam wha isn't what i'd call a premier cap. ;)

I've got a mint DSL 50 I'm looking to get rid of...shoot me an email at jason at evolutionmedia.tv if you're interested.

had the dsl 100 watter, have the dsl 401, own a jvm and a Vintage Modern. Use the Vintage in my gig rig now, and its killer for what you are looking to do. sounds like a master modded jmp, but without the icepick highs.
Go with the VM, just more organic to my ears, and you can always add another amp and go stereo if you want.

+1. 100 watt VM and a 2 X 12 and you're good to go.
