I played a regular Uberschall at GC yesterday and loved it. The clean channel was a little weird in that you had to crank the gain and channel volume for it to keep up with channel 2, but other than that it was really awesome.

I was researching it online and kept seeing all kinds of different versions. Can anyone explain these or give me a brief overview of the different ones. I figured I would ask you guys before I confuse myself looking all over the internet.

It works...........

It really boils down to whether it's your thing, and it depends on what revision it is. I personally find my Rev Blue to be a bit too bright for my liking, but you may like that. What I can say is that they are incredibly heavy amps with tons of gain available, and that they are very sensitive to adjustment. Also very sensitive to speaker changes.

There's a good post by Death By Uberschall about the various revisions in the Bogner section, you can just search for it there.

Its a love it or hate it type amp, i personally love it but i see alot of people that dont like it.
I play a revison blue, ive played the version 1 before and didnt like it as much.
The clean channel is kinda weak but the gain channel is awsome.

Twin Jet loaded with KT88s as a stock tube is undeniably one of the loudest coolest most righteous sounding amps I've ever had the pleasure of owning and using.

Just sayin,

I feel exactly the same way regarding my Green Revision Uber... :D

Best amp I've ever owned, particularly when paired with the Eventide TF -- just adds a perfect color to it.

This! I also own a rev 2 Uber. Big huge wall of guitars sound. Very 3D evil voicing. I love mine. One reveiwer on HC said something along the line of "sounds good if you only want to color with black crayons". YMMV!

  Yeah man, I keep searching for 'my tone' and frankly I really am starting to think it's been here all along with my Uber...just a flat out kick ass amp. Only amp that I can think of that really might get closer to the sound in my head is a SLO...one of these days I'm going to pick one up and see what's what. Until then, the Rev 2 has me totally wondering what the hell I'm going to do with my Fish that I paid twice as much as what I paid for the Uber  :aww: :scared: ...

I mean, I have the Uber dialed in for a very mid-heavy modern rock sound (gain at 1-2 o clock though), and it just slays. For instance, I play along with early Van Halen and it sounds great -- not like a Marshall, but it still sounds really, really good. And I can switch right over to Deftones or AIC or Queensryche or A7X without touching a dial and it still sounds great.

And of course, it still retains the legendary thunderous Uberschall low end.

What about an Uberschall vs. A 3 channel Dual Rec?

I have an opportunity to buy a Mesa for a good price...should I go for it or hold off and save up for a Bogner. Keep in mind I would like something versatile.

The Uber is more versatile than many realize, but for live use it's pretty much a one trick pony. It can be completely re-dialed at home or in the studio for different ranges of gain. Messing with the presence can get classic through modern rock sounds.

Is the Uberschall any good for lead?

Which one do you think wins for lead. 2010 Dual Rectifier or Uberschall?

Never played a Dual Rec but Uber is absolutely great for lead.

Twin Jet is warp speed on all high gain, more-metal, nu-metal fronts.

It slays.

Uberschall differences

For me, the Rev2 is just right. I think great tube amps (high gain or not) should "breathe" and have a "organic" quality to them. This alone is one reason why I'll never sell my early Dual Recto. When using the tube rectifiers on spongy that amp has that quality in spades. Now keep in mind tone and feel are in the eye/ears/hands of the beholder and very subjective.

This is the basic rundown of the Uberschalls:

Original - Fast gain taper on Gain Channel (some have said almost like an Off/On kind of jump in gain), high plate voltage, good power section compression/sag when pushed, Clean Channel volume slightly lower than Gain Channel by comparison, plastic carry handle (although some Original Uberschalls got the leather handle just prior to transitioning into the Rev2), EL34

Rev2 - Reduced gain taper on Gain Channel (same gain, just more controllable), high plate voltage, good power section compression/sag when pushed, Clean Channel volume slightly lower than Gain Channel by comparison, leather carry handle, EL34

Revision Blue - Same basic gain structure, lower plate voltage, less power section compression/sag when pushed, Clean Channel volume matched closer to Gain Channel, re-design of circuits, addition of Loop volume control, bias test points, power jewel changed to smaller LED type, dedicated design ability to allow power section slaving from an outside source (but this can be accomplished on Original/Rev2 versions), EL34

Twin Jet 1.0 - Gain Channel re-design in a direction towards the Original/Rev2 designs, plate voltage unknown at this time so I can't say, less power section compression (due to the design switch to KT88 power tubes), Clean channel re-do in the direction of a high gain modded Marshall tone with very little ability to get a truly clean sound, addition of power section Presence and Depth controls, KT88

Twin Jet 1.1 - The same as 1.0 but with a modded gain taper on the clean channel, same level of gain available as 1.0 with the ability to go lower gain and clean up better

Now keep in mind, I made up TJ 1.0/1.1 for the purpose of comparison , I don't think Bogner looks at them that way. Bogner does offer to perform the Clean Channel mod for anybody who owns what I call 1.0 at no charge.

These are the main differences I know about. I don't know specific component values between the different versions from a design stand point, but I can say my descriptions above, for the most part, are right on the money by way of research, comparisons and the general consensus from those who have had time with them. The volume difference between the Clean Channel and Gain Channel on the Original and Rev2 seem to be exaggerated. Yes there is a difference, but nothing that can't be fixed by just turning the Clean Channel Volume control up a little more than the Gain Channel volume control. Another words, adjust the amp with you ears, not your eyes.

Very thick lead tone. Channel 1 of the TJ is awesome with the gain cranked. To my ears it seems like it would cut great for ryhthm or lead. If you need cleans look elsewhere. Both channels have a huge tight lowend. Channel one's bass control actually acts more like an NFB control. You can loosen or tighten the tone. A three channel TJ with the added channel being a clean channel would be amazing. I prefer GL KT77's in this amp.

which channel would you recommend for high gain singing lead on the Twin Jet. Channel 1 or 2?
