So basically I am really over my MCP 2nd Degree BB. It's a great pickup but after I have been playing my other les paul with a set of MCP Alnico II Blackbelts which are more vintage. Smooth, thick, and beefy. The 2nd degree BB's vs the A2 blackbelts are thinner, brighter, and harsher. They don't clean up as well as the A2s.

SO!

I am wanting to try some WCR pickups. Which set would be more fitting to me? From Slash to Soundgarden to Alice in Chains
Looking for something that has good cleans, smooth, thick, beefy.

looking forward to hearing what you guys think!

I haven't tried MCP's but hear they are great.
I do have WCR's in two axes (Suhr classic and PRS SC245).
WCR's just totally rock. I've got the Darkbursts in the PRS and that is a truly great combo. They clean up nicely and are very full and clear sounding.
Shoot Jim an email and he can probably steer you in the right direction. If you order his PU"s you will have them in a few days.
He has great customer service.

I'd say you would want the Darkburst or Godwood...they are both phenominal

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on an Icebucker set. My only hang up is if they'll be aggressive enough. I don't need high output but aggressively voiced, non-harsh upper mids are a must for me.

Completely different, but the only other pup I'm considering is a BKP Painkiller. I know they'll have the upper mids but most high output ceramics don't have much high end sparkle or air.

I want a super tight bottom, perhaps a slight notch in the lower mids, lots of upper mids AND a nice shimmering high end sparkle as well. Can I have all this in one pickup ?

I was determined to buy a wcr godwood or icebucker, until I bought a BKP riff raff
it's the clearest and most open sounding brige humbucker I've ever tried, but very bright and sparkly
for Soundgarden, I strongly recommend the black dog

guess a cold sweat would fit your needs
it's just a hair scooped in the center mids, but has a lot of low end and upper mids and the most sparkly top end you could get from a ceramic pickup without getting harsh and noisy
the painkiller has a lot more center mids, bit less bass and the high end is more "hairy" rather than sparkly
the aftermath is similar to the painkiller, but less bright and hairy and a bit more low mid heavy

I agree. I was on the website just now and the that fact the godwood is there fattest pickup sounds like what im looking for. And the crossroads neck would be perfect for warm creamy leads

I'd definitely send Jim an email too, last time I emailed him he replied in about 5 minutes, and about half an hour later I had a set of pickups on the way. His customer service is excellent.

haha! I no I no! I talked with Jim, He agress that I would want the American Steel set. or possibly a Darkburst neck with godwood bridge.

what WCRs you got Greg? I no you told me once. I forgot

Since I have five WCR pickup sets, here are my thoughts...American Steele set for what you want, with A2 magnets in the bridge pickup.

Need a demo clip?

Never mind the drunk talking about the speakers types, just listen to JMR playing my Fool SG. It's got the American Steele set in it.

I have an American Steel Set in a Les Paul, and Godwood bridge/Sr single coils in a PRS custom 22. The American Steel set will do a good job covering the bands you mentioned. I like Motor City's a lot but I haven't played any 2nd degree black belts. As Jim from Scumback mentioned you might want to ask about the A2 magnets if it's an option and that's the sound you prefer. I go back and forth between WCR and Motor City, both great builders.

Use the "search" feature in the top right corner of the screen, and you will find plenty of information about WCR pick ups - ad nauseum.

Who can tell me from experience what you hear different between the darkburst and the godwood pups? Neck and bridge? I am going to try them, but need to decide if I should go mixed set or straight up the same ?

Darkburst = classic open PAF tone, low powered very clear and pure sounding
Godwood = higher number of turns and more mids less highs, higher powered and fatter sounding while retaining some PAF sparkle on top.

Both are awesome....I don't think the godwood is to hot like some pickups...not sure but I'd say the darkburst is around 8-8.5 resistance while the godwood is 10-12 (could be higher).
