Was curious if there a preamp tube the could help tame the high end of my JCM 800 2203? Just retubed it with Tung Sol EL 34's and 12 AX7's. Pretty bright though. Running through 1960 BV's (Vintage 30's), 76 LP Custom with MCP 2nd Degree BB b, 59 n....

I'm not a fan of JJ's or Chinese but you could try them as they're cheap & plentiful.

The tungsol preamp tubes are dark. Maybe try some jj el34 power tubes. Is the amp stock? There are some simple little things that could be done to it to darken it.

Ive got JJ EL34 power tubes with a JJ in V1 and Chinese gens in V2 and V3.. Plenty dark enuf for me.. I actually had JJ's in all 3 preamps(50 watt) and it was just a bit too dark...hence i switched to chinese. Try and compare and see what you find. Good luck

The amp is stock. The treble is bothering me though. It is a Marshall so I don't know what I expect but... I have been toying with the idea of modding or selling it for something a bit more versatile. I have been using the 800 for some time now and I am beginning to crave more diverse tones. Pushed clean tones, messing around with pedals, etc. Plus... I don't play live as much as I used to and when I do the Marshall is on 2. I love my 800, but it is kind of a one or two trick pony.
