TC Electronic: Flashback. Talk me out of it.

I've recently discovered this pedal and think that I may desire it. I've planned for a while to build a BYOC Analog Delay, but maybe this delay is pretty cool too. I really want nice and warm saturated delay repeats for solos and clean tones. I really like a modulated delay sound as well, and could do that with an external chorus as well, but the TC has one built in which is neat. Either unit has got to be heads above my Digitech digital Delay. All of the modes on the TC seem cool, but I definitely prefer ONE great sound to twelve ok ones. Can the TC pull off really GREAT analog delay sounds, or is it like my digidelay's analog feature where it is more like a digital delay emulating an analog delay? Plus I can always modify the BYOC delay, but I get the feeling that the TC delay may be either SMD components or digital inside, so that may be out of the question and I'd be stuck using it as-is.

BYOC Analog Delay
TC Electronic Flashback

Persuade me.

I hate the Flashback so much, I have two....

Seriously, the Flashback does many types well. The analog is good but it is not an analog delay. You can get the murkiness of it in both the analog and tapes modes. But....it gives me the flexibility of having multiple types of delay that are easy to change on the fly. Sound quality is great and it works in front of or in a low/hi level loop.

If you want serious flexibility: Flashback

Hope this helps.

try one and see really, i made a thread a few pages back on MXR CC vs the flashback,

i sold the CC after getting the flashback, i would have kept the CC but couldn't justify it seeing how flexible the flashback was, and it can get pretty close to the CC

the flashback does a a nice analog delay, it's kinda clearer/bigger sounding , so if you purely just want that specific warm analog delay tone i don't think any digital pedal unless it's super expensive will get close , thing is if/when TC release a tone print editor, you can pretty much tailor your delay exactly to your needs and get even closer

try one, for me the flexibility and stellar sounds won me out

Coming from someone who has an analog delay and digital delay on their board, the clear answer is both. I use an analog delay (Maxon AD-80) for slay back and a digital delay for tap temp stuff.

About 4-5 months ago, I got a Nova Repeater, I really like it. I probably would have gotten the flashback had it been released yet. The only thing I wish on the flashback is that they would have found a way to squeeze a tap tempo button in or made a provision for an external button box for tap tempo. At least it has the audio tap, but you have to mute the signal for 2 seconds to get that going. I am probably going to stick with my Repeater, now that I got it figured out that I need to use the Hi-input...

I ordered the TC Flashback yesterday! It's not that I have an immediate need for it. But I'm a delay junkie, and if this pedal lives up to my expectations it may very well find a definite place on my pedal board next to the CC.

yeah if you have space, both is definitely a good option =)

i only had space for one unfortunately, but as said i think you can get the flashback in the same ballpark, in a live mix people won't really notice too much,
the toneprint editor if it does get released is going to be huge imo

DO IT! You won't be disappointed. If anything-you can find them on the used market on TGP already.

I just heard about the Flashback today... I will most likely have to get one after watching a few demo clips! It doesn't help that I sold my MXR CC and now have no delay pedal around... hmm

Hmm, this conversation has far exceeded my expectations... I thoroughly look forward to reviews from Donbarzini, Sombersoul, and King Loudness also if he decides to take the plunge. Don, I'd be curious to hear your opinion of it against the Echoplex clone.

I absolutely love my Flashback. It went on my board straight away. All the settings are usable and sound fantastic. I am mainly using the 2290 setting my lead tone as it has great sounding repeats and doesn't take over your sound.

Only problem is if you were hoping to run it on battery, it will last about 15 mins, this is not a problem for me as I use a power supply for all my pedals.
