TC G Major 2: good?

hello everyone

i am looking into the tc g major 2 to use in the loop of my mark v head (mostly for delays). Seems like it offers a lot for the price ($500). Anyone have experience with it/care to share some input?

The features are great, the sounds are really good (delay, reverb, pitch detune, pitch shifting, chorus) in the loop.

Mine started crashing like a G Major I ( I owned 3 or 4). I reseated the main chip and it was ok for a few weeks. Back to crashing, locking, not passing audio.

I let it go past warranty because I wasn't using that rig live. TC was really cool and offered to fix it under warranty. It's been at TC for 2 or 3 weeks.....which was there estimated time for repair, so I wasn't expecting to see it back yet.

I was disappointed that they haven't got the quality thing under control yet, or maybe it was just my unit??

Very good quality and versatility for its price point. Though I ran into a good deal on a G-Force and sold the G Major 2 to get it. But I was happy with the G Major 2 while I had it.

My opinion: Liked it at first, then not so much. Stay away if you don't like menus and manuals. The delay and reverb, and maybe chorus are its strongest points. Don't like the sound of the phasers and flangers. Lots of variables, way more than on the stop boxes and I'ts easy to get lost. Much prefer the effects on my eleven rack. Way better i think. Gets a plus for swich so you can use it to change amp channels.

thanks very much everyone for the responses. I'd like to spend 500 or less for something to put in the loop of the Five. Delay is most important to me but chorus would be a nice bonus. Should i go with a pedal (like a nova delay or time factor) or a rack piece like a g major 2 for a little more money? What should I be looking at?

If you are just going for delay and chorus get yourself a Rocktron Intellifex for $100 to $150. It will more than suit your needs and it's a lot more transparent (ie. won't mess with your dry sound).

I have one, and it s extremely flexible, a great value for the $$$. However, I am not using it much these days - I am willfully rediscovering the sound of a dry guitar, so it sits unplugged for the time being.

Oddly, the Time Factor also does a really good chorus if you set the the modulated delay and set the time/repeats to zero.... and since it's a dual delay you can still use the second delay for repeats if you want to.

I called TC Group today because I received an email dated Feb 16/2011 stating my product was received at their end. It's March 9/2011. I spoke to someone who asked for my SRA #, she informed me that it hasn't even hit the bench yet.....NICE!!! She stated they are a little backlogged. Hmmmmmm...

What's a good delay, pitch detune, reverb unit with spillover and KILLDRY??

The rocktron replifex has the above with the spillover. I'm not sure about the killdry as I've never had a TC unit, so I'm not sure if that is a feature that completely removes the processing from the signal when not in use?

What is the difference between the Gmaj2, a Gforce, and a lexicon unit, like the MPX2 or something?

I'm looking primarily for delays, nothing fancy, but I do have some patches that have chorus and reverb, for a spacey Pink Floyd type of sound.

Currently I'm running an Alesis Quadraverb, but I've run an Intellifex and a Replifex in the past as well.

KILLDRY allows you to completely remove the dry signal, for use in parallel applications.

Remember, I'm in Canada. The TC service depot in Canada may be backed up but it may not be behind where you are.
