This track was a collaboration with a bro from another forum..

He did the drums, bass and rhythm guitars.

I tracked the clean guitar intro over it, and then I did all the solos.

Well, I never had a lesson, and cannot read musical notation..

I have always played totally by ear.

I wouldn't know if I played in Lydian or Harmonic Minor or Phrygian in that piece, or where.

I honestly don't know either I would have to transcribe it, it just sounds lydian for whatever reason

Might be.. I mean, I learn patterns on the fretboard and study scales online.

But when I start playing I sort of use those patterns as a "guide", but I follow my ear more than anything.

If I were to analyze one of these tracks, I'm probably moving in and out of Phrygian Dominant, Pentatonic Minor/Major, and Harmonic Minor.

If i follow my ear I tend to follow the scales and modes even more strictly than normal

So i'll pick specific spots where I think I can switch it up, and then use trial and error to spice it up

Yeah, I mean the chord progression you're playing over dictates that, to a certain degree.. and then everyone has their own taste as to note choice(s).

I come from listening to players like Michael Schenker, and his note choices sort developed for me what I like/don't like sonically.

I love schenker but I don't play like him, I'm just not pentatonic oriented enough

I am kind of the same way except with Kai Hansen and Jon Drenning as far as leads

Especially when you write and record, even if you aren't conciously doing it, you get little bits of your influences

Yeah, I don't / can't play like my heroes, on guitar..

I play like me, and I have fun with it.
