What are some good tele pickup sets for rock and hard rock?

Depends on how far you want to stray from the traditonal Tele tone.

The Suhr Tele pickup set is great, and covers a lot of bases.

My favorite set, as of late, is the Duncan Jerry Donahue bridge pickup, with the Dimarzio Twang King neck pickup. Super versatile, fat bridge, clear neck. The JD has more midrange push, and less top end slice, than a normal Tele pickup, but can still twang. I think it's damn near perfect.

On a budget? Get a used Duncan Broadcaster. A steal at $40 bucks.

I still want the tele sound but just not anything country twangy. I want my tele to have some balls but still sound like a tele.

The ones posted already are good choices. I would add:

Fralin Steel Poles (what I have in the bridge of mine)

GFS Fatbody - on a budget

Dimarzio Area's

Lollars

Listen to clips of them overdriven and make a decision. Chances are you'll go through a few before you hit the right one. Tele's are just really finicky like that. Bridge has a lot to do with it too.

You can thank me later!

What I came in to say as well.

I've got a Nash Tele with a Lollar Special T in the bridge and it's ace. They're about 8k and have real fat mids (at the expense of some twang). Almost a P90 vibe if you roll the tone back a bit.

I'm thinking Lollar Special Ts!

Hey! That's what I'm getting too...although I hear the Special T bridge + Vintage T neck combo really rocks
