Tell me about the BK Warpig

I just bought one. I've had 2 WCR Iron Man's and still have a MCP Solution which I like a lot...The Warpig is going in my custom built Mockingbird which is a finicky guitar. Very dark sounding, the solution is the best sounding pickup I've used in that particular guitar. So tell me about the Warpig...

I've read the info on BK's site a few years back when it came out, always intended on purchasing one... :aww: Who am I kidding, I am a gear-a-holic... :doh:
 
My bandmate has a ceramic Warpig in his RG 7621 7 string. Obviously his guitar is basswood which is going to be a little bit brighter than the mahogony but it is a sick pickup. Very fat sounding but real tight and not harsh at all. I have a deluxe Jr. V with EMG's and believe it or not when I switch guitars and play mine on his rig the BK sounds like it has more output than my 81 which was suprising to me. I think it's tight enough that it would sound good in a mahogony guitar but I would def stick with a ceramic magnet vs. alnico. I'm really toying with the idea of pulling out my active setup and slapping one of these in the bridge of my V. Let me know how you like it when you get it in because I'm also very curious about how tight this pu will stay in a mahogony guitar. Best of luck man...

I have an alnico 5 Warpig in an all mahogany ltd ec-400. I should have a soundclip of it soon :thumbsup: .
 
I have a Ceramic Warpig in one of my PRS's it is mahogany with a maple top, it sounds thick and cutting, it can sound aggressive as hell or clean up nicely. I bought it with the intention of playing metal with it instead of being versatile, so I am pleased in the metal department.

EDIT: I do coil split with it and it sounds damn nice on the clean setting as well FWIW
 
This is probably about what you can expect. Not sure what amp he's playing on but you get the picture.

 
The warpig is an awesome pickup. Very full & huge sounding. Unusually dynamic considering how hot & powerful it is. Its voicing has lots of "character". It has a very distinct low mid growl and even though it's aggressive & saturated it has certain roundness to it. Not a sharp pickup. At first I didn't like that quality, but after a few days I loved it. I don't want to get you worried & I really hope you dig it, but from personal experience the warpig wouldn't be my first choice to go in a very dark guitar. It has a lot of bass & low mids so it might get boomy &/or overly dark if your guitar is already very dark. Never know though, it may work perfect. Last pickup swap I did didn't give me the results I expected at all. Considering the voicing of the guitar & pickups I'm still :confused: as to the tonal result.

He was using a Digitech RP500 straight to the computer. The tone he has dialed in doesn't do the warpig justice IMO. Here are three I think let the warpig's character shine better. The first two are from a forumite here. You can hear similarities between his and the third one.





 
I recommend the BKP Warpig to anybody needing a thick, monstrous pickup for metal rhythm. It's the best bridge pickup I've ever owned. It can be muddy if you're not handy with an EQ, which most metal guitarist aren't, and if you're wanting a crystal clear progressive tone, it's probably not going to be your best choice. If you want a thunderous chainsaw sound, it hits the nail on the head.

EDIT: 'Best' may be stretching some, but it's perfectly suited to my personal tastes. :thumbsup:
