especially in comparison with a duncan distortion. i really like the sh6 for alot of styles of music. and its working great for me in drop B. way better than EMG or Blackouts that i have tried. I can get one real cheap (evo) and wouold want to use it in my new mahogany jackson(see NGD thread) in drop B.

i was looking for a pickup with great note definition...the evo was suggested to me from a friend...he had one in his ibanez,...i tried it out,...sounded pretty good,..so i bought one...put it in my sg...sounded terrible...so bad infact i thought i had made a wiring error,..so i straight wired the pick up (no volume or tone,..no split coil/phase)...it didnt improve the sound of it,...i couldnt get that pick up out of my sg fast enough!..so that set of strings lasted about 20 minutes!...ha!

ibanez=bass wood(i believe)
gibson sg=mahogany

after this i went to the dimarzio website and it states the evo is better suited for bass wood then mahogany...called larry @ dimarzio,...he asked what i wanted out of a pick up..i told him...great note definition,..full note spectrum (not scooped..or spiked)..great sustain..over great tone!...to my surprise he said the drop sonic is what you want then,..i was a little shoked..since i dont use drop tunings,..and i dont really consider myself a metal player...he said trust me..so i did..

after all they have a great warrantee..if ya dont like the pick up...they will exchange it!

the drop sonic is by far the best pick up i have used..it far exceeded my wildest expectations.

good luck

interesting......I do drop tune. any where from drop C to drop A. usually B. I liked the dimarzio steves special i had a couple years ago in my mahogany ibanez. it was a tiny bit scoopy, but i like that. not TOO much though. I definatley dont like a mid heavy pup for anything heavy. if i could EQ a pup it would be, bass 7.5-8, mid 4-5, treb 6
