The good bad and the ugly  Is $1,200 a good used price??

I had one and really loved it for metal. Not much of a rock amp though.

The PBII is a definite improvement over the I.
Same with FB100 vs. FB60.

Trust me, you would rather have a Mark IV in excellent condition.

I owned a Powerball back in the day. I believe that is a good price used but not sure since there is a Powerball II out there now. Personally, I found it sound really artificial. Good metal amp but not for anything else. Just my $.02.

I remember when the Engl Powerball was all the rage on HC, interesting how times have changed.

The PB II is pretty popular though....I just don't need 4 chan's.

I had one, traded it for a Savage 120 which is a far better amp. As others have intimated, the money you are planning on spending will get you a much better amp than the PB1 in my opinion. The PB sounds good with V30s and G12h speakers.

The PB1 does punishing death metal rythyms and crystal cleans, but doesnt really excel at much else. Channel 4 is almost the same as channel3, just a wee bit squishier. Channel2 is useless. If you must go Engl, get the Savage 120 which is a fine amp, or the Blackmore, but I'd look elsewhere. With the money you have available, I'd look at a boogie Mark series and save yourself some cash. Either that or a Peavey 5150 III.

Powerball II can be had used for $1500 - $1700 depending on condition. I Would recommend you grab a 2 because of the reworked voicing and sweeter mid-range. The Powerball I is totally scooped and you really can't do anything about it.

the PB1 is still a great amp....get the v2 though, much improved over the v1.
I have heard good things about the PB2 but have not tried it.

As with all amps, to each his own, take reviews with a grain of salt and try to try out as many as you can (with your cab) to make the right decision.
