I have one on the way and should have it in my hands this week but i wanna hear from people who have owned and played it, i know theres a few new amp day threads on this amp but i know how the honeymoon period works and i would like to hear more opinions on the amp.
How does it sound compared to the hulk and cali mods or which of fortins own amps sounds kinda like it. I traded my quickrod and cash for the fortin to see what all the fuss and hype is about, im sure it will be a fine amp but i just wanted some more info from you guys now that they have changed hands a few times. i listened to a few clips and from the clips it sounded pretty good.

I didn't get to play the VM your getting when C owned it. I have played his Cali modded Marshall JCM 800. That's a cool amp. I'm more partial to the Nitro though.

Seems like everyday theres fortins to talk about and once i make a thread asking about the greatness everybody shuts up.

U guys suck, thanks for nothin!!!!

  Sorry man,I have only heard clips of this amp and thought they sounded killer,I can't say I like the VM as I've heard a few and wasn't my thing,I absolutely love Mikes works and my amp!!

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now but have not had enough time with it. Initial impressions are that there are a lot of great tones to be had but in the 45 or so minutes I've had with it I have hit "my" tone just yet. Will be glad to share more when I get more time with it.

I saw the thread last night but I have not tried tat amp hence no comment, if you posted natas, bones, cali mod, etc I would have chimed in.

I will say I am not a big fan of kt-66s for high gain, some get great results like Jim but I like el34s in my marshalls. Results may vary, you may love them.

Same here, Played just about every Fortin Offering out there and havent been disappointed but have yet to play a Fortin VM. The one VM that I did play was sensational but I dont remember what tubes were in that, I think it belonged to Yngzaklynch. I can only imagine how good one of those would sound after Mike got a hold of it so I think that youre in good shape.

Sorry that I couldnt be more helpful...

I had one for about a week that Mike Fortin sent me since I was going to Forward it to BigKahuna.
I liked it alot. I owned the Bones and had a Meathead at my place as well. Never heard a Cali.
Alot of great tones in the amp. Played it in a band setting and it SMASHED THRU with ease.
Never heard a stock VM so I am not sure how much a difference between the modded one and a stock one.
It was versatile and sounded great at Rock and thrash.
For the prices they are going for on here.....cant be beat. ;)

It is NOTHING like the Hulk, that much I can say. I do not want to put words into Mike's mouth as things change but I do not think he is doing hulk mods since the Natas is now out and delivering next month. The Hulk is a shitload of work from what I understand.

Send him a quick email using the addy from his site for build times, my Natas from deposit to delivery will be 4 months since I was 2nd in line.

If I ever go towards the DC area for work I will ping you, I can pop the amp in the trunk :)

Its cool dude, i knew u didnt play or own one. I think theres 3 of them on the board and i also think theres been around 6 or 7 owners of these amps and i thought somebody that played or owned one might chime in.

It doesnt really matter since i will have mine in a few days, i was just curious what to expect when i get it. The guy im getting it from gave me some info when we made the deal but i wanted to hear some more opinions.

Maybe mike fortin will post how it compares his amps or his hulk mod.

I think i will be the 4th owner of the amp im getting. Danyeo owned one and dewd is selling one and bk already posted about his and i think he also sent it to his friend to try out. Brad and matalhead owned the one im getting. Everybody sold theirs for some reason or another, maybe they liked their other amps better or was waiting on new amps or had bills to pay.

Is mike even doing amp mods these days or just working on filling orders for his own line, also whats the wait times these days.

I owned the one that Dewd is selling. It's a different animal from the Cali modded Marshall that i also owned but the Cali had EL34's and the VM had KT66's. I played the VM before i sent it to Mike and i didn't like it because i don't think it sounded good until it was cranked and when it was loud it seemed to smooth out a bit. When i got it back from Mike it was more useable to me but the underlying vibe of the VM was kinda still there a little bit. I can still see others really liking it even though it didn't work for me.

Nice to see some responces thanks guys.

Sounds good scott.

The week I had mine.....we were on a big 70's rock kick....

that amp was sounding great for Zepplin....Kiss....AC/DC....

I wonder how it will sound compared to the quickrod i traded.

One thing to remember is that you can ask for just about anything if you go to Mike direct with an amp, yo do not have to settle for opt A or B.

Scoop switch

tight is loose

Look at the amp Steve is getting, that is HIS amp with what he wanted. Sure if you played a cali mod you could state you know all that there is to know but you would be short changing yourself.

He's getting tweaks on the Natas? I'd like that amp more if it had a more saturation - like a Herbert. Actually, then it would be like a perfect Herbert, tighter and less compressed.

That and a black faceplate with white knobs and lettering. Not a big fan of the red.

I was speaking of marshall mods but yeah Mike and I discussed some things for my natas....................wound up just adding LEDs inside the chassis but things can be added.

You would have to ask Mike about adding saturation but for my style I want it just as it is, I would not want to lose any of the fast tracking and articulation since no other amp plays like it. That is the cool part imo, there is no other amp like it as Jason's friend stated earlier. It will be my main gigging amp.
