Some vids sound great. I've heard good and bad things but the price is pretty good for such a versitile amp.

By the way the man with Rob Chappers is Marshall engineer Steve Dawson. He's designed the JMD:1, JH100 and Vintage Modern.

i can pull very simillar tones from my digital preamp/tube poweramp vyper 60W combo.

its not MIDI, but the problem i found was that these designs lack depth in real life and do not respond to different speakers, let alone different cabinets. they are not as responsive to the rolloff as a pure analog preamp so to speak.

the vyper does use a real preamp tube for its modeling interface, which you can swap out for different tones from different tubes.

they are great for practice or for someone who wants to plug in and play, screw the boost pedals etc. have it all built into the amplifier. but you lose alot of amplifier character.

i bought an amp to do this for practice because i could care less what my tone is when i practice, im concentrating on what i play and how i play it.

And that may be the case with this amp but since it's not the same amp... it's not the same amp. I really need to get my but out to Pittsburgh and try one of these.

digital preamp and a tubed poweramp, not the same amplifier but wrote in the same code ;)

have fun.

i bought one for a friend.

i played through it.

it sucked worse than I ever thought it would.

one of the worst sounding amps I have ever tried out.

that vid doesn't sound bad...
I'd like to hear one without so many fx on the signal.

Damn. Some of the vids sound fantastic.

Sounds decent but hard to tell too much from a camcorder mic. I'll need to try one at the store.

I got to hear Doug Aldrich ripping it through one in person for a couple of hours in a local store, and it sounds killer. I know some will say tone is all in the hands, and sure Doug can make most rigs sound good, but i was actually surprised at how cool this JMD:1 sounded

It's actually one of the amps I'd dig trying out. Whenever modelling's at stake, people always have really different experiences, to be frank.

There should be one at a store in Pittsburgh. If bstaley comes back at some point with a positive review I will make the trek out there to try it myself. Seems like a lot of amp for the money to me and the tone Rob has in this video is very appealing. YMMV

I went to the demo Doug did at Marshall HQ earlier this year and heard it in person too. Sounded like Doug. He said he could get the same tone out of the JMD:1 as he gets with his normal modded Marshall.

I see that he is now down to his Suhr modded head and a JMD:1 in his live rack, and wonder if the JMD:1 is serving as a total backup - i.e. Suhr + pedals + gmajor 2 etc is his main sound; then if anything goes down, he has an all in one backup solution in the JMD:1 so he can replicate his sound plus effects with just the JMD
Assuming the sound quality is there, a complete backup in one seems a decent idea to be honest.
