What cabs or speakers go well with it? What kind of effects loop does it have? Does it need a boost or can I just use some actives instead of a boost or does it respond to passive well like the 5150 iii? What kind of vibe or feel does it have recto flavor or mark flavor? Can I get metallica alice in chains and godsmack drowning pool type tones? I've only heard it on youtube so I am trying to get an idea before I pull the trigger thanks

Alittle harsh in the highs but a good amp gift high gain stuff. Funny, I owned two xxx's back about 11 years ago and thought the same thing until I found out that the ultra was the precursor to it??

I'd use V30's to smooth it out which I should've done with mine. It never did at the time. I had guitars with both active and passive but cannot recall the results too well.
I just never gelled with the highs on it but other than that I thought it was ok.

If you can get one for 250 or so, I'd go with it. Wouldn't spend more than that.. Just my opinion.

I was thinking v30s also I have an oversized recto cab but I really need a smaller cab for my car the EVH 51503 cab fits in there perfectly lol

I use my carvin 212 v30 loaded with my 5153 50 watt and it sounds really nice.
Nowadays I turn to the v30 when an amp sounds too high. Lol

That's funny Dickrose, I had 2 XXX heads back in the day as well, I feel like weve been on the same amp journey...

want instant awesome tones, no harsh highs with this head? eminence speakers. This amp has a super flexible active eq also...please use some decent tubes on it while you are at it....

Damm lol
Have you been interested in a quick Rod also?? I've been wanting one for some time now.
Yeah, definitely on the same tonal quest, I'm convinced now. Lol

I know you have been flipping heads with the best of them lately. May I suggest you get rid of the mesa os cab and just get a mesa traditional size cab? I think this is where the problem lies. None of the bands you mention play OS cabs, so you won't get their sound with the os cab.

I went through a head flipping phase because I had an mesa Os cab and once I changed to the regular size cab, my problem is that all heads sound great and I don't know which one to get rid of. Keep the rev f and change the cab. The traditional size cab will sound probably weak at first, but once you get used to it, you won't go back to the oversize.

Acalaf I for sure have a problem lately lol and I agree completely when I try regular sized cabs I have good results I'm looking for the ultra to add to the collection I just try to sell the Rev F from time to time lol

if your flipping problem started after you got the OS, its definitely the cab. Before I got my Os cab, I had 2 heads in like 15 years. After I got it, I went through like 7 heads in like 4 years.

My first rig was an 03 or 06 3 channel with an os rec cab sold it all somehow some great later I ended up with a newer os which I swear is the thinnest sounding cab ever there is a guy on my local cl that wants to trade his 1960b no wheels rough shape for a Mesa cab I'm really thinking about it but asking for a few bucks on top

I would say hold out for a traditional with v30's, even if its marshall, but not for gt 75's
