Interested in picking one of these up when I get rid of a few things. How would this compare to a Bogner XTC? How are the Master volumes on these things? Right now its between this and a Herbert

I had the 1st version. It has a pretty decent "hiss" even while you're not playing. It's not tight like a VHT. The loop isn't as pedal friendly as some amps. It has a ton of preamp gain and is voiced pretty dark. I think the newest ones are brighter. The clean channel is nice, but it doesn't have the headroom of the dirty channel. I haven't played an XTC, but I think they are quite different. I've played an Einstein, but not a Herbert. The Einstein didn't have the saturation of the Uber, but I think it would cut through the mix a billion times better. The newest ones prolly cut more than the one I had though. I guess I would describe it as quite a bit more open than a Diezel. I'd like mine back (screw ex wives..........) but between it and my VHT UL I kept the UL.

I love the Herbert, but the XTC is pretty killer too. I thought the XTC did a pretty brutal metal tone until I compared it side-by-side with the Uber. Between the Uber/XTC I'd go with the XTC much more versatile. In the end, I think you can't go wrong with any of those amps. ;)

I've only had limited exposure to the Uberschall, probably an hour total of playing time, I liked the Uberschall a lot, but it doesn't do anything the Herbert(which I've owned four 3 years) can't do. The Uberschall is fairly limited, unless you really prefer the voicing of the Uberschall over the Herbert. The Herbert is much more versatile, but you pay for the versatility.

i've seen a few in live situations and have played a couple (not sure which versions tho) and to be honest, i 've never heard a sound come out of one that you couldn't get out of a cheaper amp. now, build quality and durability are an issue and i have no knowledge of that but...i've learned that it's not so much the amp as it is the dude dialing it in and what you want out of it. maybe my ears deceive me but that's all i gots ta go by.

Well, I have a XTC at the moment running through a Uberkab, just looking for another amp to compliment it and cover some more aggressive tonal ground it's not able to. If you were to pick between the Herbert and Uber for metal which one would you go with? Not really looking for versatility as much since the XTC is pretty versatile already

and 9 out of 10 people won't notice the difference...is that worth 5g?

Herbert. No question. It's my all-time favorit amp. The XTC is a close second.

It really only matters what the person who is playing the amp thinks. If it's worth it to him, then it could be priceless.

Price usually isn't that a big issue for me since these amps can be flipped for cash so easily.

good point. but some of us can't even tell the difference. is it really 5g worth of difference? like, does it makes this ungodly beautiful sound never heard before? i ain't tryin' to diss the amp...just the price. one thing that always killed me was the resale value of the deizels. i mean, dude's are payin 5 large and only gettin' half that used...what's up with that?

I usually would never buy new unless I knew I was going to keep it for life. I understand if you are talking about new prices, but if you buy it used, you really don't lose much since you will most likely get all your money back reselling it later

It's more like $4,300. If they are paying even that much, then they are buying from the wrong dealer. ;)

Probably true :D But most people who don't play out are probably only ones who can afford it   I don't know how its possible to afford boutique gear if you don't slave it up fulltime

again. true.

Had the Uberschall(2nd version I think) half stack. Thickest, meanest amp I've ever played through! Just wan't my favorite amps for lead playing. But for modern metal it's one fine amp to say the least.
