I went ahead and picked up a straight Marshall with G12-75. I love my GBs. I like my V30s. But man, these ain't my style but I totally get why some guys love them. The lows are absolutely tight and crushing. But it's too bassy IMO and should be handled by the bass player. Some guys like that tho. The highs can get sizzling and aggressive, but they start unleashing buzzsaw and gross things when dialing up treble or presence to balance the lows. Yet I can see where someone who thinks Dimebag or Slayer has good tone would like that sound.

I see what you did there... ;)

I don't know man. I had my G12 65 cab right next to an 800 cab with those same vented 75s, I thought the 75s had better mids. I like em. 65s, early 75s and of course GBs all sound great with any Marshall I've owned.
To each their own.

I'd bought a Marshall G12-65 full stack a couple years back and thought those were my favorite speakers... until I landed a Marshall G12H-30 55Hz (Blackback) full stack.

dimebags tone was crushing....but i hear you brother....

Yeah, see... I agree with stuff like Slayer and Dimebag's tones being crushing. Seriously, it's hard to imagine those tunes any differently. But for ME... that's not MY tone. That's why I get a little frustrated when guys say "this such and such sucks at tone"... well, somebody out there might find it's the right color they were looking for.

So I'll definitely keep this cab around. I might find an amp that just makes sense with it. Or I might join a metal band where it fits better and adapt my style and tone to that genre a little better. It's all good. \m/

Just FYI. Those old vented T75's are not even remotely close to what a newer T75 sounds like.

I had two JCM800 cabs. One with vented 75's and the other with G12-65's. I preferred the vented T75 cab by a little. It had more bite and better low end response, but the mids were pretty on par with the G12-65 cab. Not as flat response in the mids as the newer ones.

I find those old Vented ones to be closer to a H75 creamback than the t75. It's the reason why i stocked my Friedman cab with H75's. It's the reason why i bought another JCM800 cab with old, vented t75's.

That said, i also like the newer t75's, but that depends greatly on the amp being used. Most Marshalls will work fine with them. Other amps... not so much. Also, i think Dimebag was great, but he had the worst tone ever IMO. Slayer was just a mid boosted 2203 into a Marshall cab. So yeah... i like Slayers tone. It's super Marshally.

Interesting. Thanks for that info. I intend to just keep this one no matter what, but sounds like I need to adjust my expectations a bit because it's not the same as what I've learned about modern T75's.

Well. the main thing is how it sounds. I mean, obviously, you can't really be disappointed if you liked the tone from the cab, until you found out what was in it. :)

The newer t-75's have a very flat response in the mids. No they are not scooped. Many other speakers just have extra mids. This works OK with a Marshall amp which tends to fill in those frequencies well. However, you really need to crank your amp to get there... usually. This is my experience anyway. Slapping a Mesa amp into a t-75 cab usually does not yield good results as the mid frequencies are different.

The vented t-75 seems to be a best of both worlds scenario for me. Granted, i do not sit there and compare frequency charts, but my ears tell me that they are very similar to my old G12-65 cab. I could rarely tell much of a difference plugging into either one of them, except the vented t-75 cab had a tighter bass response and a tad more bite.

The non-vented t-75's from that era also sound pretty great. I feel the highs are tad more present, but they have teh same mid and low end.

Again.. this is my ear and my experience with these three versions of t-75's.

Yes agreed, but bear in mind I didn't like how it sounds with my SLO clone. Once I get a Marshall clone, could be a different story which is one of the reasons I'm gonna keep it around. The main reason I'm gonna keep it is I'm finally financially in a place where I don't need to sell cheap gear (hell I only gave $300 for it) if I'm not using it in order to purchase stuff I could utilize.

Thanks for both detailed break downs of what you heard with the different versions. That level of geeking out over gory details is something I enjoy.
