Whats up guys

i looked into this a while ago but i think i read it wasnt worth it.

Then i saw a review in this month's (or last months) Guitar World. Started to get me thinking about.

Is it better with some amps than other amps? Does it do a good job?

And the main question is.... how good is it with a 5150?

I have recently moved out of my old place and i cant play as loud anymore.. hopefully this will just be temporary...but im interested either way.

Cheers

It does work better with some amps than others. For bedroom volume, my old TSL60 was better without the Hotplate, my JCM800 is much better with it. The thing with the hotplate is that its best to use it to the lowest degree of attenuation possible (aka a balancing act between amp and Hotplate). I've heard the Recto isn't great with a Hotplate. I would guess that the 5150 probably isn't the best either because it is a preamp heavy sound (vs. a little more power amp from the JCM800s).

Hey man,

Thanks for the reply. I think this is what i found out last time. But when you crank a 5150 around about 3 (which is loud as) it really starts to hum if you klnow what i mean.

or do i have this THD thing all around the wrong way?

The thing I've noticed w/ the Hotplate is that as you turn it up, the sound is a little more "boxy" for lack of a better word. Personally, I think it works better to "take the edge off" the volume rather than knock a cranked amp down to mouse levels.

Check out "The Leash" by the amp company Bad Cat. It looks very simple there is only one knob. It can also be used for 4,8 or 16 ohms. You can view it at WildWestguitars.com. On the discription it says it does not tame your highs, choke mids and rob your bass. I myself will be checking one out soon. I do agree that the Hotplate does not work well with Mesa Rect. I do think it is probably the best attenuator out there. The deep switch really does help. The price is not that bad. You can also buy a Hotplate by Gibson for about $100.00 less and it is exactly like the Hotplate. I believe it is manufactured with permission from THD. They probably don't use as good of materials.

Awsome..

Thanks guys for the info.

So... a hotplate with a 5150? yay or na?

Some of you guys must have tried it.
