All this talk of RIP Dimebag and Randy Rhoads recording techniques caused me to do some deep research on youtube (thank god the youtube cameramen were there at the time) on unaccompanied guitar solos and my conclusion is: they suck.
Oh, you can do a diminished scale? Isn't that nice!!!
Hey, you can tap, too!!! Wow. Gracious, you can do sweep picking which sounds like arpeggio exercises my kid sister used to do on the piano. How musical!!!
There's not a lot of musical content in these solos. I get that they're putting on a show and the common folk seem to enjoy them, but can we at least agree that the best days of acapella solos are in the past?
