I know most of you are dropped A flat, 9 string playing nu-metalheads (relax guys.... it's a joke)

This is some mindblowing stuff from session ace Tom Bukovac. His "Home Skooling" segments on youtube have been great. Check it out, no matter your style.

I don't know, I'm a metal head, that was super boring for me. Good noodling, shitty beer, what the heck, I guess people are going nuts, or like me, can't fucking sleep anymore, but really, what the fuck, that blues shit, I learned that when I was 18 years old. Booooring.

I figured I'd get more than a few responses like that. No offense to everyone, but this is a very narrow minded (genre specific) forum. I don't take your response offensive. Opinions are like assholes.... as they say.

You say you find the blues boring huh? Ask yourself, could you grab a guitar and go sit in at an open night jam session at the local corner bar and be able to hold your own on stage with a guy like that? I'd guess probably not. There's a reason he makes a good living doing what he does. I'm 51 years old and started playing guitar at age 8 in 1976. I graduated high school at the time bands like Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth started to break. I still love that stuff, but at some point you really need to grow as a player. I'd love to hear what Alex Skolnick from Testament would say on this.

My background started in classic rock and Ozzy/Black Sabbath. All with roots in the blues. Most of us have a foundation in it and don't even realize it. Look, we all like what we like, and that's cool. I have always looked for inspiration from all types of players. Just play! Especially now days. Use the down time to expand your knowledge.

Back to the woodshed for me. Later,

Ed

Cool video man...rollin rock isn't the same as it used to be.

Here's "the baddest motherfucker" IMO! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzcU7MVbvXM

SHREDS !!!! !!!!! !!!!!!!

This video reminded me of 1978 when I saw Al Dimeola and Carlos playing together and Carlos ruled, now Carlos is schooled by a ten year old.

I thought you found the blues boring? Just bustin' your chops man. I enjoyed the clip. Love watching the kid have fun and turming some heads. That's what it's all about!

Good playing. Especially for a 10 year old!

And your mentioning of Al Dimeola.... he is a complete badass. He was a huge influence on my picking hand.

This is a gear forum. I get that. When I posted that original clip of Tom Bukovac,,I knew it wouldn't be everyones thing. I just think sometimes we need to get off the internet and learn something new. I do love watching Tom's videos where he's playing real deal vintage guitars and a garage full of vintage Marshall's that us mortals will never own. Again, he's a pro that's played on dozens and dozens of platinum selling albums. If you followed him, you'd understand why he's a "first call" session player in Nashville.

dude rips!!!

I also like:
-Troy Grady, monster player and founder of Cracking the Code
-Rick Graham, monster chops and cool lessons
-Tim Pierce, great lessons and session ace

forgetting some for sure. rolling rock used to be ok

Dave Brewster (Late Night Lessons on YouTube) is just a crazy talented dude. He's been putting out content regularly for just over a year now, and I'm really glad to see his channel is gaining traction.

He's real good, but your title oversells the hell out of it. (just my opinion of course)

Post your vids and credits so we can compare you and Buk. If Tom's playing is boring I would love to hear your lively playing.

Buk is a monster player. I did a stint with a touring artist a couple of years ago and Buk cut the solo on one of his songs, was a beast to learn. His phrasing is fantastic and just seems to play the "right" notes

Bukovac is fuckin’ great. Hell, I’m a metalhead as well (not so much the 9-string djenty type....more of the Tool, Pantera, Mudvayne, Lamb Of God type) but didn’t find it boring.

I suppose it’s a thing that so much of the guitar itself has been done already that, for me, it’s just finding players that might be playing the same things you’ve/I’ve heard before but they’re touch, tone or phrasing might be a little different and it’s enough to be drawn to them.

I’ve been watching all the Carona Lessons/ Homeskoolin vids and loving them. The guy is a wealth of knowledge on a lot of subjects and is a pretty entertaining story teller.

I've been watching a bunch of these. This one stands out for me. Billy Gibbons was my first (lol) so there's that. And check out the Whole Lotta Love riff. I've been playing it wrong too!
