sounds great dude! What kinda Mic, pre and mic positioning did you use?

Sounds killer. Man, the Quick Rod is really haunting me. Is there any tonal difference between the newer heads and the older ones?

Congrats! I snagged this quickrod B+ recently. Love it.

Kind of funny actually, all these years I've used a Peavey PV8 analog mixer with an SM57, run out into the input on my laptop's onboard soundcard for recording. Obviously not studio qualtiy, but it's a cheap setup using gear I already have and actually I just placed an order yesterday for a Focusrite 18i20 USB interface. A lot of it is just using your ear, expensive gear doesnt always mean good results. I did live sound for 6+ years for free just to learn how to do it and the guy who taught me everything had a rack of POS behringer half working compressors, gates, and EQ's and he could somehow get that cheap gear to make some amazing live sound mixes. I sometimes end up using a different mic position, especially since this is a new amp to me; I will usually play and have headphones on and move the mic around until it's in a sweetspot. Once I get this new interface I'm going to make a bunch of demo recordings and see how they come out.

Thanks! I believe the newer ones have different transformers among other little things? I would call scott splawn and ask him directly if you were interested in knowing. I actually tried a 2009 model and I really liked it. Literally played it for over 5 hours and the music store practically kicked me out haha. They never told me it was a 2009 model so I ended up not buying it and went with a brand new 2013 model. The last time I played through one in that store was about a year ago so I waited before pulling the trigger on one. If memory serves me correctly, I seem to believe this 2013 model has a lot more gain than that 2009 model I tried. I seem to only need to use gear 1 or 2 and really not a whole ton of gain.

Outstanding tone & execution
Thanks! I really just messed with the knobs on the amp for a couple of seconds and left it. I'm sure I could have found a better tone. The knobs are very sensitive compared to my TSL100 sitting next to it. Also, I noticed the knobs seem to be dependent upon eachother's settings which is interesting. I live in an apartment so I couldn't really blast this so I'm glad that even at bedroom levels it can push out some good tones.

sounds great man! congrats!

I recently picked up a QR with the B+ option, and I'm really diggin it. Tons of grind in the mids, and a solid lowend that stays tight and punchy. Love what a bang for the buck these amps are. If you like the splawn voicing, these things keep right up with the boutique offerings that are so popular right now. Also really like how the B+ changes the feel a bit, really makes it a fun amp to play without losing that clear tight lowend. Here's my beast, I went with the GT stripes. :D

Literally my favorite Splawn look (besides mine of course)

The Quick Rod is hands down my favorite amp. All around win for price/tone IMHO.

Here's mine:

To the OP, that's a classy looking amp.

thx man, I really dig it. I love the vintage classy look of yours and the OP's. It was either something like that in a plexi shell, or the GT stripes. I went for the stripes since I got the matching cab. I can't walk by it without playing it, lol.

Another thing I noticed about these new ones, is he made all the gears more aggressive. I used to like gear one on my old one, but it was a bit too classic voiced for my needs. Gear one on this thing is a firebreather!
