I don't mind PayPal's fee's and I don't expect something for nothing from anyone.

What about when Dwolla gets hacked and your checking account gets sucked dry because the have your SSN and direct access. No thanks.....for now. Will be quite happy having other people test it out.

Paypal's fees are not bad, in fact they are reasonable if you think about it. Ebay is where the fees are out of hand. We need an alternative to Ebay.

There's the problem...not sure what drove the fees up though - deadbeat buyers/sellers, greed, monopoly?

I will say this though, I got stiffed on an ESP KH3 that I bought. This guy had 600 transactions and a good seller. No shipping, lied a couple times. I reported it and within 14 days, I had by $1800 returned to my PP account. We all bitch, right up to this point. So, to me its just the price of doing business and don't worry about it.

Steve

It cant kill paypal if you cant use it to pay somebody on Ebay.

The monopoly is at the center of Ebay and PayPal high fees. They are the only game in town. And yes, buyer protection is a service Ebay offers for transactions on the 'bay, and it should cost something - you're essentially enjoying the protection of transactional insurance.

But that doesn't apply to non-Ebay PayPal transactions. They charge 2.9% transaction fees and take almost no risk. I'm happy to pay for the service (I do remember the days before PayPal), but paying $30 just to receive payment of $1,000 is just ridiculous.

 good points, man.

Most credit cards charge the merchant 2-3 percent so whats the diff? I don't really have a problem with PP fees. Its just Ebay fees combined with the PP fees make it pretty high and the fact that Ebay(who happens to own PP) will bully users into using PP.

I still think PP sucks ass and can die a slow death in hell for their biased and bullshit exchange rates. That's serious fkn theft in my book!! That along with their friction costs... Bastards, and FOR SURE, I'll group credit companies into this mess of corporate thievery and say that they can meet their demise the same way that PP can.

Just sayin'.

On a lighter note, periods of sun in Spain today with a cooling off expected this evening....

I remember when that happened. You could no longer specify any payment other than paypal. You can still send cash or money order, it just isn't advertised.

Paypal is worth every penny, it really is ebay's rates that suck. But as Steve said, its the cost of selling in a global market.

Haven't tried using dwolla yet but eBay is bad, PayPal is good

The only beef I have with PP is when they tried to hold my money for 2 or 4 weeks or whatever it was after a transaction to make sure the buyer was absolutely thrilled and didn't want a refund. I wrote them an email asking how much interest I was getting paid for the loan I was giving them. That they cant force me to give them an interest free loan,And if they refused to pay interest I would have my attorney contact them. Funny that hold business dissapeared and I haven't heard of it again on my account.

That's ON TOP of credit card fees. And with a credit card issuer, there's more risk in the transaction, so the fees are better justified.

As for me doing a non-CC transaction, I lose the convenience of the credit card (which is a big loss) and I still get hit with the same fees as a CC.

No wonder a lot of people prefer dwolla than PayPal for online payments. Many are disappointed by paypal online installments choice ever since it was bought by eBay. Dwolla claims better than the competition in many,if not all aspects. Article source: Dwolla set to challenge PayPal for online payments

Interesting first post.

  Nice, huh....Hey Brenda03 show us the pic of your sure to be awesome cubicle...uh... I meant amp wall

I have no problems with Paypal at all. I use bill me later all the time and the 3% is just the cost of dong business with a credit card. Ebay on the other hand I haven't used for selling in a long time.

This +1 a million. I don't mind the 2-3% fee but having to wait for my money after the buyer recieved their product is total bullshit. eBay is already "protecting" the buyer with their high fees (how does higher fees equal protection anyway? ) so why does pay pal feel the need to do the same thing.
But hey that's corporate America

I don't really have a problem with paypal fees. 3% is relatively minor and if you were running a business, is probably about the same as what a credit card company would charge. What really pisses me off is how they team with ebay and double dip on the fees. Ebay takes their 10% and then a cut of your shipping price, and then paypal(owned by ebay) takes their 3% off the top of everything, selling price and shipping price included.

A Dwolla marketing pawn who found this thread in a Google search no doubt. Well played...we're talking about it again.

I don't have much problem with paypal. It's well worth the convenience and security for me.

I'd like to be able to transfer my money from it to my bank account faster, but it's cool.
