So I pulled these setting from a picture of Eddies touring rig that I ran across. Personally, I think they are bright as hell, and could never see myself gigging with them. But it was interesting to play with. I used my Schecter loaded with a DiMarzio Tone Zone, as I figured that it would be the closest pickup I owned to Eddie's.

Sorry... forgot about those.. lol

Presence at 1:00

I thought his volume would be much higher than that

thats bright? sounds just about right to cut though and not sound like a bass amp

from what i remember of channel 3, that's a buttload of gain

I agree. I don't like when amps fart out from too much bass. This sounds nice, and he probably has the volume up louder which fills it out more.

Those are roughly the settings i use for channel 2 and it sounds great through the PA. It does sound bright in my basement but in a band mix; very good. I lower the gain quite a bit and crank the mids on channel 3 for leads.

I was going to say, that's how i dial in my amps but the highs can bite ya a bit if you are not careful. Surprised at the lack of mids though..

Keep in mind that the EVH cabs have a different tone than the Mesa cabs.

IIRC, his EQ settings on the original 5150 (Peavey catalog) were 7-2-5 for B-M-T. Not too far off on the tour rig/ what you've got here. If the III is anything
like the original 5150, it has more than enough mids and doesn't sound scooped at these levels at all.

The brightness I can see from him since he has probably lost so much hearing on the high end of the spectrum.

Tone is in the fingers .... not the midrange knob. Personally I see the whole scoop / cranked midrange discussions that seem popular on the forums as kind of ridiculous. I sound like me if I crank or scoop my midrange.

Also notice there is no other midrange instrument in the band .... He really does not need to cut thru anything else in the mix.

from the soldano forum:

"Normal preamp at almost 8, overdrive preamp at around 7, bass at 8, mids at 3, treble at 4, normal master at around 5, overdrive master at around 6, and presence at 5."

i have my 5153 dialled like this through Creambacks and it sounds great, if you listen to his isolated tone it has a lot of top end in it, even with the V30s i thought your vid sounded good.

the red channel has a ton of mids with the knob at 12 o clock, i have to dial them back quite a lot too

Ed's my hero. I've owned every amp with his name on it at some point in my playing life....can play almost any VH song you can name.......I still don't sound like him. His fingers are better than mine!

I bought a Friedman Brown Eye recently. I will say its the closest VH tone I've ever had for my non VH fingers! Actually it does everything well.
