The First New Karnivool Album in 13 Years

To be completely honest, all tracks/singles they already released from In Verses where great imho, not amazing but great.
All other unreleased tracks sound a bit like Birds of Tokyo songs with heavier guitars.

The guitars themselves sound more like a soundstage, or a wall, instead of the beautiful separated melodies and riffs they used in sound awake and asymmetry. Complexity wise i'm hearing a lot of repeating patterns and time signatures, nothing unexpected, very safe.

Listened to the album in one go, but it left me a bit dissapointed. Need a few more to really form an opinion on it.

So far, it's a 6-7 out of 10 at best. And that's coming from a die hard fan since Persona.

In the beginning, Asymmetry left me with a similar feeling, coming from Sound Awake.
But that album was def a slow burner for me, took a long time to get into, but now I absolutely love it.

Hoping it will be the same for In Verses.

I feel like I would be more tolerant of this if it came out 4 years ago with the first single. I liked all the teaser tracks, but I was hoping the rest of the tracks would tie the album together. The last two were so cohesive that it's weird for them to release a collection of songs.

I'm only on second listen through, but I'm pretty happy with it. I gave Drone a few listens when it came out to get a feel for the vibe and mix but deliberately avoided listening to the rest of the released songs so as to approach the album as a whole fresh entity.
I love they got Forrester back, that's their sound. Asymmetry was too unfocussed and the mix was just not right. It took me many listens to really get into that album. I spoke with Drew years ago (2019) at a local gig and I recall that he wasn't totally happy with that album as it was released, it wasn't as finished as he wanted in retrospect but it got to a point where they just wanted to finish it. Even back then he said there was no plans for another album, so now having this one come out and them hitting their stride again, it's awesome to me.

Fucking loved the first two. Saw them live in 2011 or 2012 and they were great. Fucking HATED HATED HATED the third album. Don't have the new one one yet, but like what I've heard so far.

Seriously, I'll be 58 next month and no album in my life pissed me off more than Asymetry.
