The flips side.."worst tones" of the 80's?

While we collectively blow our loads over famous recordings or guitar players with great tone, how about some guys that had absolute shit tone? I mean these are the same million dollar studios that brought us some of our faves, how did some of these bands end up with such shitty recordings and tone??

So I'll start:

CC deville..seriously wtf is up with that look what the cat dragged in. It also never got a hell of a lot better.

Tracii Guns - this guy can't find the mids knob on his fizzy amps. Pick your recording , they almost all suck.

This whole thought came about as I have been listening to hair nation on sirius every morning going to work.. How about you guys? Who blew tone wise for you?

I disagree with you on part of CC, his tone on the Flesh and Blood album is very good, the guitar tone on Unskinnt bop especially.

Judas Priest had terrible tone in the 80's. Rush sounded terrible as well.
 
CC and Rush for sure. Priest wasn't bad considering the technology that was available. I'd add Kiss "Crazy Nights'...THAT WHOLE ALBUM BLOWS.
 
Not trolling and NO BULLSHIT my favorite guitarist of all time Randy Rhoads. Sacrilegious as it may be his tone was anemic as hell and had it not been triple and quadruple tracked it would have really been the end all sewer of tone. His chops are what made him awesome. Sadly I used to want that tone. Still have the old JMP's and Script Logo MXR Dist +. He also loved those EV speakers IIR that were really clean. Anyway that's my take.
 
+1 on CC Deville.

Also, the tone on the first Bulletboys album could've been better. Still, I do enjoy that album.

Agreed. His lead tone in particular was dreadful (though not helped by the poor album production). Incredible player though.

soooo totally I didn't have to be the first to say Randy...but damn it was bad. Not CC DeVille bad though. Sweet Jesus that's some sweet ass full-tilt solid-state Crate shitacularness. What about the guy from Twisted Sister? It was pretty shitty too.

i always thought cc's sound was subpar too..until flesh and blood.

i knew something had changed for him, i just didnt know why it sounded so different (back then) and better.
solo for something to believe in was really nice.
 
Bulletboys....What? Their tone on their first album was rockin. I know a lot of people will say CC, but it wasn't that bad for solid state.

Off the top of my head, I'll say Robert Sarzo's tone on Over the Edge by Hurricane was awful. No sustain at all and the mix of that album was terrible too. Kelly's vocals are way too loud, and I barely hear guitar at all on some parts.

Some might say "Soldiers Under Command" is terrible. I just think it's different. Very dry and tight, with CRANKED MIDS.

My ultimate vote would go to Priest's Juggulator tone....I know that album was in 97, but man i can't stand it.

I dig Kirk....like not my fav tone but after growing up with hippy parents and cutting my teeth on 'Zep and Cream I can still remember the first time I heard that album. HOLY SHIT...it just sounded massive.
