We went to see Black Sabbath, Never Say Die tour in '78. A new unknown band named Van Halen opened the show. Saw the next VH2 tour when they headlined.
Not '78, maybe '81-82, saw Ozzy with Randy, Blizzard and Diary tours; Motorhead, Joe Perry Project, and another opener I forget. Then there were all the Blue Oyster Cult / Sabbath with Dio; Maiden & Priest combination tours...Clash of Titans: Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax with Public Enemy, AIC opened....

I'm listening to Rush, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Floyd, etc. at home and then in the car
you'd get Sultans of Swing, Roxanne, and Just What I Needed almost one after the
other and it was a massive shock. Partly cause it was so different from the heavy stuff
and partly cause you couldn't help but really like it!

I will never ever forget the first time I heard Eruption on vinyl in 1978. 12 years old and knew immediately the meaning of life! Actually had no clue what I was hearing. Sounded like a space ship. But anything heavy was such a relief from the crap on the radio!
1978 and VH I was when the 80's began. And for this type of stuff it was over by1985 ish We then moved on to Anthrax, Testament and Metallica

85 was the year I really got into music of my own taste. Before that I was just into all the stuff that got radio playtime. When I was 11 my older brother moved out and left me his cassette collection which was mostly hard rock like Foreigner, Loverboy and early Def Leppard (H&D and OTTN).
That was the music that prompted me to buy Pyromania and Shout At The Devil (both released in 83), and then a couple years later I was starting to get into heavier stuff, and wouldn't you know more 83 releases like Kill'm All and Show No Mercy.

In 78 my first experience with hard rock was Farewell To Kings. I was 6 when I first heard it. Still bad ass
