for 8 years i was a marshall man...i loved the "howl" of my jcm 800...but then i fell in love with the "growl" of the high gain peaveys!...then i drooled over and got a mesa stilletto for its "balls"...now i have gas for an ubershall for its "dynamic-heavyness"!!...it's always just a comppromise...and i think its one of the many reasons of amp flippin...but if you could take the best of any amp...put them all together into one amp...damm!!

i want the howling, dynamic heavy balls that would make me growl!!!

i went through the same thing dude.

except i didnt have the cash to flip amplifiers. so i started with a 5150 and started fixing it to how i liked it

i loved the growl of 5150's but hated the out of control fizzyness and also wanted to articulate it to sound more like a controlled chainsaw sound without hearing undertones of that gain when soloing.

i also wanted it to sound full and descrete and not like a gay square wave most solid state amps tend to give out of this type as well.

after 3 years of messing im waiting on 1 potentimoeter from peavey and it will be done =]

i might try and post some soundclips and get everyones opinions.

anyways i do understand what you mean though.

Having owned them all, maybe an OD100SE?

if it were me, id check out the following:

custom audio electronic's 100W head (bob bradshaw builds amazing amps)

soldano avenger

diezel's if you dont mind the price - they have excellent low end definition.

engl's powerball.

at least those are the ones i would recommend for you. it seems we have somewhat simillar tastes so excuse my first post =]
