The new toy

So last night I went to pick up a used Ibanez Prestige RG. I have to say that the neck on this guitar is one of the best that I've played on. The action is so low, it's just sick. It was made to go fast! It's a 2005 model. Five piece neck-thru maple and rosewood. The body sides are ash. Ibanez low pro edge trem and some DiMarzio pickups. The guitar has a really nice mid range growl to it. The tone reminds me a lot of Blues Saraceno’s tone on his Plaid album. It just has that growl. It’s hard to explain, but I love it. Anyway… on to the pictures!

Notice the Rosewood overlay...nice!

My main guitar through out most of the 90s was a 1993 RG470. I got it as a graduation present from my parents when I finished high school. I loved that guitar, and it was my number one until 2001- when the headstock was removed at a gig accident...

Since then, I have shyed away from the RGs, and Ibanez in general, as they sort of got associated with the whole nu metal scene... which I am so not a part of. At any rate... when I started talking to the guys in my old band about getting back together I knew that I was going to need a floyd rose equipted guitar again to play some of our older material- as I no longer have my Carvin DC127C. I went out and played a lot of guitars, and kept coming back to Ibanez, because the necks on them were so comfortable and fast. Then I decided to hell with it, I didn't care what anyone thought about the brand as a whole and it was time to start looking for what guitar would best serve my needs- regardless of what name was on the headstock.

This guitar plays like a dream. It's fast. I can get stupid on the bar and it stays in tune. The core tone of the guitar is right whereI want it. And, in my opinion, it looks sweet. So I'm very happy with the purchase. It came with a Team J Craft hardshell case for $600 out the door.

I think that the bridge is a Tone Zone and the neck is a PAF Pro. The next time I change the strings, I'll see what they are. They sounds really good though. I thought that I would have to change them- as I'm more of a Duncan guy, but they sound really good in the guitar. And yes, I know that I need to clean the headstock... I'm getting to it...lol!

Man, I really couldn't tell you the model. Other than the Prestige designation on the headstock, and the serial + Team J Craft logo on the back, there is nothing on the guitar that suggest a model. I can tell you that this is the first ash guitar that I have liked the sound of. Usually ash is too scooped for me. I guess the maple neck-thru helps bring some of the mids back. I'm not sure how much of a factor the rosewood strips in the neck paly either...? It does sound really good though!

Awesome! I dig the new vocalist....he actually fits the music better than GC. More attitude and less pretty boy sounding.
