Yes, I know I could've bought a Caparison earlier. Been doing eBay searches on 'em for years. Played some in person at Guitar Asylum about 8 years back. In fact it was my intention on my trip to Japan 3 months back to buy one but, alas I came back empty handed. I did almost buy a used Dellinger. Played great, sounded great and priced great however, it wasn't a Horus. Fast forward to a few days ago when I walked into my new music store haunt in upstate NY (I am there for business now weekly) and the sales guy I met there the first time I went there walked right up to me and said I have a guitar you were looking for (I told him about my trip to Japan). Do I want to see it? Of course! Then this happened:
Aqua Blue Caparison Horus M3 MF
So... I look at it and go... beautiful but, I want one with an Ebony fretboard but, then I strummed it and time stood still for a few seconds and I KNEW I was buying this guitar as long as there was movement on the price (these pics were taken at my house so the price was right)! Went to do the obligatory try the electric guitar through an amp thing for 30 minutes and it ended up being 90 minutes. Turned the amp off and put a price in my head and walked to the counter and had my price within 3 minutes. And that's the end of my 10 year long NGD story
Pros: Everything! Acoustically vibrant with the right amount of sustain. The time on the clock inlays show the fret number... talk about attention to detail! On an EVH 5150 III's cranked blue channel, I can get a CLEAN tone using nothing but the volume knob that actually sounds good. Stock bridge pickup is a 9 on a scale from 1-10. Neck pickup is a 7 or 8. Upper fret access is EASY. Neck feel is in between satin and unfinished. Neck thickness is just right, I'd say medium profile. The gloss body is MUCH better looking than the previous satin/matte finishes on older Horus models.
Cons: Nothing except for the lack of factory coil splitting/tapping options which is the only thing needed for this guitar to receive a perfect 10. So I will do a push/push knob install in the near future and add that feature.
I must also give props where props are due... the Charvel Guthrie Govan model kicks @$$! The '17 model's pickup switching options are AWESOME! I grabbed one for a few minutes to A/B with the Horus and immediately lamented not having more than 3 pickup tones available
I definitely will change that and I also know that I will definitely get a Charvel Guthrie as well (that love affair started 3 months ago when I played on in Japan). Anywho... later!
