So first things first: My customer who shall remain unnamed until which time he chooses to reveal himself asked me to build a cab inspired by the Friedman Naked prototype cabs (careful if you search for "Friedman Naked" to find pictures of the originals), got approval from Dave Friedman before I put the NAKED text on the cab. I would not have put it there otherwise.

Anyway, this cab is obviously VERY inspired by the cabs Dave made for his Naked amp. I don't know the history of the amp but the pictures I've seen of this style cab leads me to believe the proto chassis was smaller.

I have a new respect for those who are making distressed products. Believe it or not I spent quite a bit more time than I expected obsessing over how to make this cab look naturally beaten. I estimate cab at 30 years of really good road beatings. Tolex/Vinyl blows :D

Nice work! Yeah, it does look just like the old Naked headshells.

That looks awesome. Would love to find one of those original Nakeds.

I have finally decided to come out of the closet....

Yes, this is an exact replica of the original, Friedman inspired Naked shell. I pulled up some pictures and sent them to our resident woodworking guru, Bob Savage, and asked if he would care to make one for me. He was all over it like white on rice. Very quick work in designing the layout and top shelf joinery here folks. Painstakingly finished to reproduce the original. I think it looks very cool indeed.

Anybody contemplating some similar work, give Bob a shout. Thanks bro.

Everything I've seen Bob do is A+ work. When I get something done he will be my first call.

Plus one.

Damn, was just looking at the proto in robs girlfriends thread, this one is so much better looking I lol'd

Wow that's fantastic Bob.

If you didn't say it was distressed in your post I would have said it looks purposely unfinished.

Bob,

Looks great! Bit random, but colourwise, it reminds me of an old pair of jeans I used to have. But then I guess the whole "naked" theme gets a bit strained if I have a pair of jeans....hmm....

Compliments of the season! :)

Thanks guys. This really turned out to be an interesting project.

Despite the very close resemblance, there are a number of differences in the way I distressed and colored the cab from the originals so this isn't an "exact" replica but it's close enough. Fortunately Steve gave me some creative freedom so this is more of my take on the original cabs. I love the look of stained woods and stained the Poplar blue instead of painting the blue. This is also an all lacquer finish, even the black.

How many of these cabs did Dave make?
