Hi,

So after reading about this lately I've sent my serial number to PRS for some info on my custom 24,
it was made in 95.

They indicated it was made in Paul’s Annapolis shop before the move to stevensville,
and when I asked if there's a difference between these and the production afterwards, they responded:

"They had the same basic build although we were not using CNC machines at this point so there was more hands on work involved".

I don't know if any of you knew about this before, didn't hear any official response from PRS about this in the past, only speculations and endless debates between forum members.

Thought I'd share (-:

Yeah ..., that's been floating around for a while now .... PRS guys argue that the pre- guitars might have a little more "mojo", but the CNC's brought a whole new level of consistency to the guitars that wasn't possible before, and ultimately led them to much higher QC standards ....

One of the more obvious byproducts talked about in the pre- models is that the necks can sometimes have dead spots ....

Personally, I've played between 25 - 35 pre- guitars, and NONE of them had any problems at all !

But at the same time, I just sold a 2000 CU-24 and it was an awesome guitar !

Go figure ....

Cool that PRS responded to your question. The old factory guitars do have a certain mojo to them. They used duplicarvers back then for the rough cut, so there was a fair amount of consistency in the pre-CNC days.
I own a few more of the pre-'95 PRS than the CNC era ones. But I love them all!

Any guitar that hasn't been played hard and broken in by its owner has NO MOJO...it's earned, not purchased

I used to be in a band with a guy who had a pre '95 PRS. He would go on and on about how it was better than the current ones. He never let me play it, but I will say it did sound good through his mark IV, even if about everything he played sounded Santana-ish. :)

He claimed the pre'95 PRS guitars commanded more money. Is that true? I have never checked.
