The T75 wins!

After months of micing the V30 in my 4x12 (T75's and V30's in X pattern) I switched over to the T75 today. I feel like I'm hearing my JMP the way it's supposed to be heard now.

Imagine that.

V30's are great, but they have a lot of "personality". Sometimes that extra influence isn't needed with your amps tone.

T75s are my go to for amp testing. if i can't get an acceptable tone outta a stock Marshall cab i'm not gunna dig the amp.

Great for off axis recording also, or right on the cone if you have a an amp that is capable of utter darkness (recto / uber)

I like the T75's. They mix well with anything and seem to be Greenies on steroids. They seem to settle down some of the sizzle of V30's, as you say, on amps that need a little bit of help in their articulation.

Just goes to show that any speaker can beat a V30.

Seriously though, G12T-75's are fine speakers. I usually find something I like better, but I could easily be happy with G12T-75's with a good many amps....

I prefer T75s and K100s over Vintage 30s in most situations, especially for heavier rock and metal. Vintage 30s sound like someone doing a 100-yard dash with ducks strapped to the bottom of their feet.

Everytime i try T75's at low volumes i absolutely hate the tone of them. Infact the T75's have even tricked me a few times into thinking something was wrong with my amp, because of how bad they sounded

However, at cranked volumes they are a lot different. They sound much better when pushed hard. I'd still take V30's over them anyday of the week though

i agree with the folks who say that 75's need to be cranked. they sound and feel different when the cones are really jumping as opposed to sitting on idle.

Well, I am running the JMP pretty hot, mic'd up in a back room. I did try the T75's wile using lower volume levels, and didn't really care for them, but now that they're actually working a little, they sound great. It's almost like I can feel the amp a little better using the T75's.

They sound pretty dull with certain amps though, like a Boogie Mark. V30s are much better for Marks and sometimes rectos. In my opinion, Marshalls ALWAYS sound better with 75s or H30s than with V30s.

the mid range that everyone seems to say is missing with the 75 is more apparent when they're driven hard.. imho of course.

I wouldn't call master of puppets or and justice for all DULL at all. mark pre amps, marshall power amps and marshall cabs with 75's

I think V30's have to be really pumping before they really sound their best as well. It's like the Tubescreamer effect. At low volumes you only hear the tone loss, but at stage volumes you hear the focusing and sweetening that happens.

Well, anything can be fixed in post. I've AB'd a Mark IV with a Marshall 412 with 75's and a Boogie Traditional 412 with V30s and it wasn't even close. The 75's sucked the life right outta that amp. The other people there agreed.

But that was just our opinion, that's not to say that it couldn't be dialed in to sound decent with the 75s. But when we switched to the Mesa cab it was like the way the Mark was supposed to sound. Just perfect.

Metallica used Marshal A/BV cabs with their mark amps. The marshall A/BV cabs had Vintage 30's.

I remember reading an interview from that time with James saying he used 75watt celestions.


true, mastering can do wonders to a weak tone..

I do agree Mark series amps sound better with V30's
