nice, the manchester store right? I hate that store, everything they take in is EXTREMELY over priced. Its like they lost touch with actual market values. Store manager over there is a fucking douchebag too, Ill never shop there again because of that toolbox
Don't hold back, be honest m'kay...

To me this is how I hear vh4
Ch1 no gain
Ch2 some gain
Ch3 lots of gain
Ch4 even more gain
I can see how this could be a given perception.

Again, if the VH4 was "the best amp in the world", everyone would own one and play one. Diezel's got a lot of sweetass choices to choose from; but there's a host of other manufacturers out there with just as much love and soul put into their amps who'd love your attention. Betcha Slash wouldn't gel with a VH4, and Cantrell wouldn't gel with a Fryette. No biggy, no bad.

Peace

I tried one through a Diezel cab about 10 or so years ago from an exlusive dealer in the Detroit area and I could not gel with it. For the price it was average at best IMO, but just because I ddnt like it much does not mean it is not a great amp for others.

I'm friendly with one of their old managers and got great prices on a lot of gear :) Their used stuff has actually been coming down in price a bit. I think GC finally got the hint that it couldn't out-do ebay.

The short answer is that, as other people have been saying, the Marshall turns any Diezel amp to sounding like shit. I don't mean OK, I mean like shit. I don't know why, but the Diezels just do not work with the cab.

Not exactly true, mine sounds fantastic, albeit my 1960a is pretty old and well broken in, classic rock tones on the Hagen are superb and I'm sure I recall Peter saying he uses one to help with voicing. I can see where metalheads wouldn't be super keen tho.

I bought one a few years back because it was relatively cheap on ebay. I wasn't looking, but thought, this is supposed to be the holy grail. I felt the exact same way as the OP. It was just meh? Not bad, but not nearly worth the price. To me the sound on channel 3 was similar in nature to a cranked Fender Twin, only with a master volume. So you have that really overdriven power tube distortion, but it was super tight, and you could quiet it down. Channel 4 was more preamp sounding distortion added to channel 3. The amp was like Tool Aenima in a box. Considering that I never thought of Tool as anything special and I would never rate his tone as my favorite (production values aside), I moved it.

THAT

if true, is the best fucking thing i've read here in 3 years!

and will be even funnier when all the "does your 1960 cab have old t75 speakers in it?" emails start hitting craigslist sellers in the vicinity of every vh4 owner here that posted how shitty the vh4 sounds thru said cab/speaker setup....and just swallowed their tongue when they read that.

this place is endlessly entertaining anymore!
