Dudes...
Having a SS refret and pickup swap in my V.
Need something with less output than my Warpig. Something more trad.
Paf Pro? Duncan Distortion?
Looking for something a bit tighter than the Alnico 'Pig
Amp is a '79 2204 with Sd-1 on da floor

MCP Detroiter and MCP Angel Dust both rule. Tight, thick and balanced with pissed off mids. Detroiter's around 10k, AD around 14.5...

Depends what your playing?

For the tight heavy stuff:

C-pig if you like the overall characteristics but just want it tighter.

Painkiller (Got this in an all walnut floyd 6 string and it fuckin rocks. Will peel the paint off fucking walls; in a good way!)

or

Rebel Yell. Bright (but not harsh), growls in the mids, tight as hell, and articulate as all get out. Rebel Yell will also work well for playing rock stuff to.

Love all 3 for death metal and thrashy type stuff.

Always wanted to try the Angel Dust. Sounds like something I'd dig

It's awesome. Thick, yet articulate. Pissed off mids and smooth, cutting highs. Similar to the Detroiter, but fatter and a little hotter.

I thought the stock 500T was pretty damn good in mine.

+1

But if I had to go with any other option - Duncan Distortion!

badass pickup but lean squishy bottom. love or hate. have mine in a strat.

I could not wait to pull the 500t out of my LP Classic. Lacked clarity.

The MCP Detroiter in my SG has a tight, thick sound that I just love. My fav pup right now.
Sounds killer pushing my 77 2204.

Ive tried a few and have settled with the trusty Super Distortion in my V, the 500T was bland

I put a duncan tb14 in my V and swapped tha mag to an A8.
It kills now

That is the word. The 500T is incredible!!!!
Agreed!! At one point I thought about swapping mine out but then realized that it crushes in that guitar.

+1 on the AD. I got one in my V and it suits the guitar very well.

Yeah, great pickup! My original post should say that it's a little looser and fatter than the Detroiter.

the A8 magnet thing is awesome (put one in a Jb and it is awesome)...I would look at a dimarzio Breed. Fat Tight..AWESOME (neck version is GREAT for shredding to

This. It's one of my favorite pickups, but I think my tone tastes differ from some here. Half of the $200 pickups people recommend sound like warm, boomy fuzz to me.

This man knows what he's talking about!

Duncan Distortion would be too thin in the low-end for a Flying V. Tight, sure, but not thick.
I have a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge of my Gibson 67 RI V, and a Breed Neck in the neck position.
Awesome combo, although as I've had/have the TB-14 (Custom 5) in both a Les Paul and a ESP Horizon, I'm pretty sure it would fare really well in a V.
Way bigger, yet tighter sounding than a JB, yet retaining that alnico-character, without sounding too vintage-y or too modern otherwise. Great split-tone too.
