Things I did to my EVH Floyd

I usually like hard tail guitars and recently picked up a EVH stealth hard tail that I've really fallen in love with. I've also been thinking of getting a guitar with a trem again so I got a black EVH special, however my favorite trems have always been Ibanez trems due to the way the arm feels. Back some time ago I asked if anyone had any tricks they had found to make the arm less floppy on Floyd Rose style trems without having to tighten down the ring so tight that the arm no longer swings. One guy mentioned cutting a pick up spring in half and dropping that down in the sleeve where the arm goes... so last night I gave that a shot. I really liked what it did to the feel of the arm. It gives a much more usable adjustment range when tightening the ring at the base of the arm. Arm can still move out of the way when I flick it away but I can also position it to stay really close where I want if I dont flick it. Hard to explain but I liked what it did.

I also had installed a trem stop to keep it from floating..... just dive bombing. The block is the kind with the brass L bracket and adjustable screw that hits and stops the block on the trim. One thing I didn't like was the feel of the metal screw hitting the metal block. First thing I tried was a thin rubber foot which I think came off of a pedal. That didn't work at all.... too soft and just didn't feel right. So then I tried taking a small piece of the soft side of Velcro and sticking that on the block where the screw meets the block. That gave it a very nice feel on returning to zero but not to soft that when I rest my hand on the block there is any give and also retained the sustain. Also made more the very subtle arm vibratos that I like to do at times much more pleasing to me when it wasn't making this hard "clink" feel.

Just thought I'd share what worked for me.

The guy that gave you that stopper must be a cool guy.

He's alright but a really cool guy would have one of those one watt Marshalls. :D

Why would you need a trem stop on an EVH guitar when they are made to dive only??

The EVH I got isn't like the EB's where the trem set on the face of the body. If I want the Floyd to set level there is room under it. Leveling and dropping it to the face would not clear the neck.

Did you buy this guitar used? Prev. owner may have shimmed the neck to raise trem so it would float. Worth a look anyway. I thought they were set up at the factory to rest on the body, dive only.

They are set up to rest on the body, it shouldn't be floating at all.

Nope new from GC.

Yes it was set up with it stetting pulled back against the body but that made the trem tilted back at an angle. Making the arm for me pulled back too high and getting to the D Tuna was hard and pulling it out made it hit the body.
